Job Description
The Director, Community Programs leads and manages Elevate’s Community Programs team in Michigan. The Director is responsible for implementing programs in partnership with community organizations, municipalities, and state agencies related to affordable housing and resilient communities, with an emphasis on building decarbonization - energy and water efficiency, electrification, and renewable energy. The Director, Community Programs collaborates with departments across the organization as well as with key partner organizations. The Director leads strategic planning, resourcing and process improvement on this fast-growing team.
The position is based in Michigan to support the growth of program work across the state. The Director, Community Programs reports directly to the Vice President, Strategy.
Responsibilities- Oversee implementation of programs and projects in the Michigan market and lead statewide initiatives.
- Oversee development and launch of new programs and projects across Michigan.
- Lead strategy development and process improvement for the growth of Elevate’s presence in the Michigan market.
- Coordinates with other teams on Elevate’s National Strategic Engagement Team that cross over with Michigan, including: tribal, workforce, community consulting, solar, Justice40, policy, and high-performance buildings.
- Supervise Michigan-based managers directly and coordinate project resources across the organization for Michigan projects.
- Communicate regular project/program updates and results to internal staff and external stakeholders.
- Build and maintain relationships with key partners and clients in the Michigan market.
- Support client engagement across Michigan, including conducting customer outreach, preparing for and participating in client meetings, developing proposals, and coordinating with partnership managers across teams.
- Connect partner organizations and clients with expertise and resources from across Elevate, such as high-performance buildings, solar, workforce development, municipal consulting, and other programs.
- Represent Elevate with local, state, and national energy efficiency stakeholders at meetings, conferences, etc.
- Stay current on affordable housing policies, energy efficiency and green design trends, and available financial and program offerings for building owners, developers, municipalities, and community-based organizations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree required or relevant lived experience; Master’s degree and/or relevant lived experience in related field or additional relevant education preferred
- Ten or more (10+) years of experience in energy efficiency, climate resiliency, equity, or other related work
- Proven track record of strategic planning, process documentation and improvement, and partnerships development
- Experience managing teams
- Experience successfully managing projects on time and on budget
- Experience developing and coordinating values-driven, community-rooted programming
- Ability to foster meaningful and authentic relationships that are supportive and inclusive
- Ability to build relationships and navigate the broader ecosystem of political, private sector, nonprofit, and community organizations that Elevate works with
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, as well as facilitate collaboration and accountability
- Comfortable navigating change and uncertainty

CompensationThe total compensation for this position includes health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, etc.), defined contribution benefit (401k with contribution), professional development, generous paid time off policies, and a flexible schedule.
