Position
We are currently seeking an accomplished and detailed oriented Director, Clinical Project & Portfolio Management. You will serve an integral role in developing and executing clinical programs and managing the Development project portfolio. This position requires the ability to function and lead in a fast paced and dynamic environment and may have line management responsibility.
About you
You're a highly motivated and experienced Director of Clinical Project & Portfolio Management to lead our clinical development programs from early to late-stage clinical development. The role can be based in either New York, NY or Hayward, CA. As The Director, you will be responsible for overseeing the development and execution of clinical programs and managing the Development project portfolio.
What You'll Do
  • This position requires a deep understanding of end-to-end drug development and project management with a focus on delivering high-quality clinical stage programs that meet business objectives.
  • Leads and manages EDTs (Early Development Teams) and/or PDTs (Product Development Teams) independently, from Phase 1 through launch, including shaping the overall project strategy and driving optimal decisions.
  • Works closely with the EDT/PDT Project Leader to co-lead a cross-functional matrix team of experts in advancing programs/assets within the remit of their Project Team (EDT/PDT).
  • Accountable for creating and maintaining a cross-functional development plan, timeline and budget for each program and ensuring progress vs. plan. Facilitates effective, science-based business decisions including development of scenarios (base-case, buy-ups, buy-downs) as needed, highlighting interdependencies and downstream impacts (including but not limited to timelines and budget) of strategic decisions Ensures all decisions are assessed as to their risks and impacts.
  • Acts as an integrator within the EDT/PDT and across the enterprise to ensure alignment and connecting on best practices.
  • Advises on governance expectations and prepares for key decision point discussions with focus on cross-functional input and rigorous debate.
  • Manages the 'Development' project portfolio to ensure efficient and effective use of resources and alignment with corporate goals and objectives.
  • Evaluates and implements new technologies and processes to improve execution of the clinical pipeline.
  • Provides regular updates on the progress of the 'Development Programs' to senior management and stakeholders, including presentation of clinical data and analyses.
  • Mentors and develops drug development project management staff to support their professional growth and development.

Qualifications
  • PhD or Master's degree in life sciences or related field with a minimum of 10 years of experience in drug development project management in the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience managing clinical stage programs from early to late-stage development, including managing multiple programs.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead cross-functional teams and manage complex clinical stage projects, including developing and managing project budgets, timelines, and resources.
  • Strong understanding of global clinical trial regulations and guidelines, including ICH and FDA guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively present information to senior management, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight timelines.
  • Experience mentoring and developing staff to support their professional growth and development.

The expected salary range for this role is $191,000 to $220,000 depending on skills, competency, and the market demand for your expertise.
