Direct Support Professional

Weinberg Commons, a department of the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey is seeking Part & Full-Time Direct Support Professionals for our Residential Program. Shifts are typically from 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm weekdays with one weekend (for full time positions)

Specific Responsibilities:

• Provide Direct Support to individuals by assisting with development of independence skills based on the need of each individual.
• Assists to the extent needed by the individual in all daily living skills.
• Advocates for the individual including fostering healthy relationships with peers and staff.
• Communicate effectively and efficiently with guardians, parents and support personnel based on needs of the individuals.
• Administers medication and completes documentation of same.
• Transports individuals to and from medical appointments and documents all information from appointments.
• Assists the individuals in developing a support network within the community.
• Assists individuals with identifying and/or accompanying them to social and recreational activities within the community.
• As needed, will transport individuals to appointments, shopping and other activities
• Accurately completes all mandatory in-house documentation.
• Participates in IDT meetings for personal future planning as requested.
• Completes all duties as delegated by the Residential Manager/Director, Residential Services.
• Must successfully complete and demonstrate proficiency in all areas of required training.
• Perform any and all duties requested of supervisors.
• Will cooperate with the licensee and Department of Human Services staff in any inspection, inquiry or investigation.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Prefer Associates Degree or higher or high school diploma (or equivalent) plus two years’ experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
• Valid Driver’s license in the State of New Jersey. Employee’s driving abstract must not exceed five (5) points.
• Shall be at least 18 years of age or older.
• Ability to communicate effectively with written and oral language.
• Submit to a criminal background check and be determined to be not disqualified by the Department of Human Services prior to hire.
• Agree to have their name checked against the Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities
• Shall submit to drug testing and receive a clear drug screen prior to employment per Stephen Komninos Law.
• Shall submit to drug testing conducted randomly and for cause.
• Shall complete an application to have their name checked against the Child Abuse Registry Information (CARI).
• Demonstrate an understanding of inclusion, compassion and has the ability to problem solve with individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
• Must cooperate with the licensee and Department of Human Services staff in any inspection, inquiry, or investigation.
• Fully vaccinated for Covid -19 based on CDC requirements and DHS requirements.

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
