Direct Support Professional

SARAH SENECA Residential Services, Inc. is a private, not for profit human service agency serving the Connecticut shoreline towns of Branford, North Branford, Guilford, Madison and Clinton providing individualized residential services for individuals with intellectual / developmental disabilities.

We are looking for multiple Direct Support Professionals who will support individuals served in maintaining a lifestyle that promotes individuality, responsibility and dignity.

Essential Job Function: Be an effective advocate and role model for individuals served.

Support Staff will:

• Administer medications via State of Connecticut Medication Administration Certification.
• Support and oversee each individual in carrying out assigned aspects of his/her medical care, programming, financial management, and personal care.
• Transport individuals to appointments and activities.
• Assist individuals in choosing and attending safe and appropriate leisure time activities.
• Demonstrate effective and professional communication skills, work autonomously, and utilize good judgment in problem-solving and dealing with crisis situations.
• Carry out specified physical management intervention as needed.
• Maintain certifications to provide CPR, First Aid as needed.

Job Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of intellectual disabilities.
• Valid State of Connecticut drivers license required; Employee must meet driving standards as stated in SARAH SENECA Personnel Guidelines.
• Provide own transportation when working at apartment sites and/or when/where necessary
• Working knowledge of ADL skills: i.e. banking, food preparation, housekeeping, money management.
• Med certification through DDS a plus!
• Weekend availability is required
