This position is located in Wilmington, Delaware. The Diocese of Wilmington/Catholic Charities is seeking a Direct Service Support Specialist PRN, as needed, (maternity care and support professionals) to work with clients of the Bayard House, a residential maternity home for homeless, pregnant women to facilitate their physical health, emotional well-being, and promote growth in their role as a parent in order to improve the quality of life for mothers and their children. The Direct Service Support Specialist will act as a role model and assist clients in moving toward responsible adulthood.
Bayard House is the only licensed Residential Program in Delaware providing 24/7 direct client care service. The Bayard House program helps young women become nurturing parents and self-sufficient members of society.
The schedule for this position is as needed, up to 28 hours weekly.
Essential Functions:
- Monitors progress of residents.
- Ensures smooth functioning of the house and monitors daily activities.
- Plans and assists with on-site activities for individuals, and group participation in parenting skills.
- Monitors on-site group activities arranged in conjunction with Supervisor and Case Manager.
- Arranges for training and assists clients in parenting skills.
- Presents a positive adult role model for clients.
- Supports residents with self-administration of medication.
- Maintains accurate documentation of all activities.
- Responds quickly in emergency situations.
- Cultivates positive relationships; attends staff meetings, in-service and training.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent with one year of relevant work experience, with the ability to further education according to program needs.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic Charities in serving pregnant women and preserving the sanctity and dignity of their lives.
- Strong leadership ability, tact, diplomacy, flexibility, and communication skills.
- Sensitivity to the needs of pregnant/parenting women and their babies, as well as the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Willingness to consent to/disclose Adult Health Appraisal, including TB test results.
- Ability to be certified in passive physical restraint within one year of employment.
- Ability to build trust and rapport with individuals from diverse cultural, socio-economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
- Willingness to consent to and ability to pass a criminal background check in accordance with federal/state/local laws.
