Job description

The Digital Initiatives & Resources Librarian is responsible for designing, developing, sharing, and implementing digital-forward strategies in library content development, open-educational practices, user experience, technology, digital production and collections, and web maintenance and development. This position also provides research support and serves as a liaison to specific academic departments teaching library instruction sessions as needed.
Position Accountabilities:
  • Digital Initiatives - Coordinates the implementation of new and updated technologies for the library. Ensures interactive user engagement with library digital content and investigates, creates, deploys, maintains, and promotes new methods, tools, digital learning objects (DLOs), online tutorials, learning aids, videos, and research guides. Collaborates with subject faculty, other librarians, and instructional designers to ensure the success of library Digital Initiatives. Serves as library liaison on all issues related to the existing course management system and digitization efforts with Fishburn Special Collections & Archives. Serves as project manager in roll-out and management of new digital information services. Monitors trends in emerging technologies and recommends and/ or implements new initiatives as appropriate.
  • Digital Resources - Provides maintenance of the Library's licensed digital resources, including tasks related to implementation, staff support, troubleshooting, and maintenance of resources. Designs, implements, maintains, and coordinates library content for web and mobile-enabled interactive services that provide a quality user experience. Uses data analytics and user feedback to evaluate the effectiveness and accessibility of current user interfaces, and identifies opportunities for improvements. Collaborates with the IT staff to develop information service strategies and initiatives that maintain a high level of patron satisfaction with digital technology resources.
  • Open-Educational Practices - Participates in vision and support for open education practices in collaboration with various stakeholders. Advocates for faculty discovery, creation, dissemination, adoption, and evaluation of OER and affordable teaching materials as a social justice initiative to make university education more affordable and equitable and to increase usability and flexibility of educational resources. Creates OER-related instructional resources, including webpages, guides, and learning objects. Designs, markets, and delivers events and workshops related to open and affordable learning resources. Partners with university departments as necessary to promote OEP initiatives.
  • Research Support and Teaching – Shares in providing circulation and reference services in-person as well as by phone, chat, email, text or other communication modes. Promotes library services and collections to the university community and seeks active partnerships and collaboration opportunities with colleagues at the university and at other institutions. In cooperation with the other librarians, serves as a liaison to specific academic departments and teaches library instruction sessions as needed.
  • Instructional and Literacy Tools – Contributes to the creation of research guides, digital learning objects, and other digital and print tools to promote the usage of library resources.
  • Enhancements – Stays abreast of trends in library Digital Initiatives, user-experience, OER, and digital content management through active participation in local, regional, and national associations, conferences, and relevant listservs. Serves as a liaison to library colleagues through sharing of relevant information from professional activities.
  • Administrative – Assists with the development of policy guidelines and procedures for digital services and Initiatives and content management in conjunction with library and university colleagues. Assists with the accumulation and analysis of statistical information related to the library’s collections and the library's digital services.
  • Other Duties –Performs other library duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
  • Masters of Library Science or Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited school.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library theory, as well as current practices and trends in librarianship.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience managing digitization workflows and digital assets in an academic library.
  • Experience in work that requires organizational skills including evaluation and assessment; diagnostics and problem solving; independent and collaborative decision making.
  • Experience in project management, with an emphasis on website management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with dynamic delivery of web content, accessibility and internet standards, and interactive web design and underlying architecture.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library-related OER trends and applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional theories and methods related to information literacy.
  • Experience providing research and technology assistance to library users.
  • Excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work and interact professionally with a diverse group of individuals in a changing environment.
  • A demonstrated ability and desire to fulfill the requirements assigned to faculty at the university.
  • Willingness to serve on university-level, regional, state, and national level committees.
  • Interest in participating in the consumption of scholarship.
  • A demonstrated ability and desire to learn and implement appropriate technologies.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work during evenings or weekends.
