Position Summary
The department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the George R. Brown School of Engineering has an open Digital Health Research Engineer position. Working collaboratively with a dynamic team, you'll contribute to the design, development, and release of cloud-based mobile software applications for Digital Health applications. The job responsibilities will span various stages of research projects, from conception to implementation, and involve employing cutting-edge technologies to address challenges in Digital Health Research with clinical partners. The role demands a strong foundation in mobile application development, adaptability, and a passion for contributing to groundbreaking discoveries.
This position will be a part of the Rice Digital Health Initiative (dhi.rice.edu), which is a cross-disciplinary initiative in the School of Engineering dedicated to improving healthcare outcomes using novel Digital Health technologies. The faculty in Digital Health initiatives work closely with nearly all clinical specialties, creating technologies that impact many healthcare needs.
This position is hiring at a starting salary between $83,400 and $106,400 per year and entails work on Rice University's campus, with the potential for some remote work/flexible work arrangements.
Requirements
- B.S. Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline
- 3+ years of related experience in mobile software development
Skills Required
- Skilled with at least two of the following mobile application development tools and technologies: Android Studio, XCode Cloud, Xamarin, React Native, Flutter, and Xamarin
- Experience scripting or developing in at least one of the following languages: HTML, CSS, C#, Java, JavaScript, Swift, Objective-C
- Proficient with at least one major public cloud provider AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure
- Strong understanding of software development life cycle and agile methodologies
- Experience with public cloud technologies, source code management best practices, and continuous integration/deployment tools
- Strong verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with strong attention to details
- Ability to maintain quality safety standards
- Ability to encourage teamwork and collaboration
- Ability to solve challenging engineering problems
- Strong organizational skills
Essential Functions
- Conduct research and development activities to drive organizational innovation
- Contribute to the design, development, implementation, analysis and testing of new technologies
- Conduct experiments, meticulously documenting and presenting findings
- Participate in the management of projects, reviewing project scope to ensure projects are on time and within budget
- Provide basic instruction to diverse user groups, including undergraduates, graduates, post docs, faculty, and external users seeking guidance on instrument utilization
- Perform additional duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and commitment
