Job description

The Pennington School is an independent coeducational school for students in grades 6 through 12, in both day and boarding programs. The curriculum is college preparatory, with an emphasis on individual excellence, fostering the development of the whole student through academics, athletics, community service, and the creative and performing arts. The Digital Content Specialist is a full-time, on-campus member of Pennington's Advancement team. Reporting to the Director of Donor Engagement, the Digital Content Specialist assists with the writing, design, approval management, and delivery of advancement communications vehicles that include email, web, text, video, and social media. This includes managing over 150 mass emails sent to all constituents throughout the year using the EMMA marketing platform. The Digital Content Specialist works closely with the entire Advancement team and the School's Communications team to ensure that Advancement content is refreshed and compelling and is displayed on the Pennington School website and social media accounts.

This position is an in-person opportunity only and not appropriate for any candidate seeking hybrid or remote work.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Email: Assists with the content, layout, approval process, editing, and programmed delivery of 150 mass emails (to alumni, parents, prospects/donors, all constituents) sent annually through the EMMA platform. This work includes managing the calendar of content/production for the emails and working closely to gather needed content and information from team members and from other departments across campus.
  • Social Media: Creates and designs relevant social media posts (stories/video clips/photo reels/post copy) for alumni and School platforms to promote advancement-related engagement and activity. Manages calendar of planned posts, identifies opportunities for organic/real-time posts, and creates and manages review and approvals process for advancement social media content. Manages flow of inbound post requests from alumni on alumni social media sites
  • Web Content: Creates ongoing and regular refreshed content and needed updates to all advancement-related pages/content on the School website (working closely with the Digital Media Marketing Associate in the Communications department). Creates and generates new and "recycled" material for the advancement pages to ensure refreshed profiles, articles, and up-to-date information for events, activities, and programs. Manages reviews and approvals of landing page and registration forms requested from advancement for events and act as liaison for the advancement team and this content with the Communications department
  • Texts: Using Hustle, works with team members to create, program, and prepare/execute text campaigns related to major events and offerings (e.g. Pennington Giving Day, Homecoming and Reunion Weekend). Manages back-end set up of lists and information as needed. This is a growing area of digital communications for the advancement team.
  • Video/Photography: Uses video and photography tools and platforms (e.g. Flickr, Memento) create and manage content as requested/needed to be used in multiple digital formats to support advancement initiatives. Manages digital photography projects involving advancement team outreach post-signature events and activities
  • Metrics/Operations: Produces and tracks all digital communications metrics in an ongoing and sharable dashboard and makes recommendations for areas of change and needed attention. Maintains excellent online files and records of all digital communications using the School's Google Drives systems and ensures all team members can access materials and are correctly filed in a timely manner
  • Assists the Director with Donor Engagement as needed with any special projects, needed support, and/or other advancement communication initiatives
  • Stays current and learns about new tools, best practices, effective advancement approaches within the world of digital communication and independent school advancement communications. Seeks to create efficient, effective, and evolving approach to digital communications
  • Other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3+ years of professional experience in design, communications, journalism, or a related field
  • Experience using and creating content on email marketing platforms
  • Experience creating and managing institutional social media posting on multiple outlets (Facebook, Instagram, X, etc..)
  • Understanding and experience with production management timelines/tools for communications (or related professional endeavors)
  • Familiarity with the creative design process, execution within deadlines and budget
  • Exceptional attention to detail in process and communication platforms
  • Strong proofreading, writing, and visual design skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal communications skills (interviewing, speaking, listening, and understanding)
  • Fluency with office software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Create Suite, EMMA (or similar email program), Hustle (or text programs), Adobe Express/Canva, AI generative photo and design tools (e.g. Firefly) and/or similar tools and platforms
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals, both internal (senior leadership, faculty, and students) and external (freelancers, designers, photographers, and printers)
  • Appreciation for independent school culture and community norms
  • Available for occasional evenings and weekends as required for all-hands signature events and activities

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The working environment is an office and school environment on a 55-acre campus. The ability to occasionally lift files and storage boxes, walk up and down stairs, attend meetings in varying locations throughout campus, and continually use computers and related office equipment is required. Not all buildings on campus have elevators.

This position is a full-time, in-person, 12-month, staff position. The candidate must be available for occasional weekend and evening work as needed for School events and projects outside of normal work hours.
