Position Overview
Town of Vail is Hiring for Digital ContentCoordinator!
$60-000,$75,500 DOE
Discover Vail is the marketing brand of the Vail Local Marketing District (VLMD), a Colorado special district funded by a 1.4% marketing and promotions tax collected on lodging in the Town of Vail. The VLMD's marketing effort is guided by the VLMD Advisory Council (VLMDAC) and is executed by Town of Vail Economic Development staff, working with VLMD contracted partners. The VLMD sits as the Town Council to approve the annual operating plan and budget for the marketing effort.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Social Media Management for Discover Vail
  • Develop approved social media strategies and execute on these strategies to enhance brand awareness and engagement. Support and promote local events, initiatives, and campaigns through social media channels.
  • Manage and maintain all social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) for Discover Vail.
  • Maintain and follow monthly content calendar development in conjunction with media agency. Boost selected posts weekly in Instagram and Facebook in line with budget.

  • Collaborate with communications team on community and tourism related public relations.
  • Engage with the local community on social media platforms, responding to comments, questions, and concerns in a timely manner and elevating when/if needed.
  • Create, curate, and schedule engaging content that aligns with the Discover Vail and Town objectives and target audiences.
  • Track, analyze, and report social media performance using relevant metrics and tools.
  • Identify opportunities for user-generated content and encourage followers to share their experiences in Vail.

  • Curate user generated content posts and manage via Crowdriff or similar software.
  • Maintain monthly Instagram and Facebook highlights.

Content Monitoring, Maintenance & Population
  • Regularly review and monitor the DiscoverVail.com website content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and relevance.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to gather updated information, news, and events for website inclusion.

  • Conduct a cadence of regular thorough quality checks to ensure all content meets brand guidelines, aligns with Discover Vail and Town of Vail objectives, and enhances user experience.
  • Content Population and Organization:

  • Maintain website content seasonal update requirements.
  • Populate and format new content on the website, including articles, blog posts, images, videos, press releases and relevant Town of Vail information.
  • Monitor and update submission from business listing and event listing forms.

  • Optimize content for search engines (Search Engine Optimization) by incorporating relevant keywords, meta tags, and descriptions.
  • Update and maintain event calendars, business directories, and other relevant sections of the website.
  • Organize and categorize content to enhance user navigation and searchability.
  • Ensure proper attribution and copyright compliance for all media assets.
  • Ensure business listings are up to date (with supporting detail provided by the Town of Vail)

  • Vail.com cross-linking and content enhancement - provide twice annually (spring and fall) a seasonal audit of Vail.com to ensure Vail, the destination, is accurately represented. Includes review of events page and in-resort offerings to track inaccuracies, missing content and suggest improvements.
  • Review Discover Vail Content calendar, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) content and email drafts with agencies to ensure accuracy.

Photography & Asset Management
  • Manage the photography/video asset budget

  • Negotiate, manage and oversee vendor relationship with photographer and videographer
  • Research/vet potential new photographer(s)
  • Support relationship between agency, partners and photographer/videographer and other parties involved; problem solve
  • Align on strategy and approach; assisting photography/videographer in defining Scope Of Work agreement and priorities given budget parameters
  • Work with Marketing Specialist and VLMD partner group to develop shot list to further expand the Vail summer/fall asset library, including photo and video

  • Support photographer/videographer to accomplish the shots
  • Pre-production involvement: Review of talent, locations, wardrobe, arrange any location permitting, fees and approvals
  • On-site presence/support during shoots as needed
  • Hold photographer/videographer to production timeline, deliverables and budget
  • Provide final assets to partner group and appropriate parties as outlined by the Content Strategy Team

  • Asset Management:
  • Respond to asset requests and provide assets if approved
  • Manage Intelligence Bank asset portal system (hosted by the Town of Vail), ensuring photo/video assets uploaded, properly tagged and filed, usage/terms outlined
  • Manage partners and community access to the portal system

Local In-Kind Advertising Management
  • Work with Event Coordinator and Admin to collect event program ad deadlines and specs. Work with agency/freelancer to resize/deliver creative to event producer.
  • Manage in-kind bus ad creative and placement twice a year, working with agency/freelancer on creative and delivering assets to printer. Printer then delivers ads to agency to install.

Other
  • Serve the citizens and guests of the Town of Vail by abiding by all Town of Vail core values.
  • Perform job in accordance with all Town of Vail safety practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills / Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Self-educate to stay updated on emerging social media trends, tools, and best practices.
  • Refined content creation skills; ability to compose effective, accurate and inviting written and visual content.
  • Ability to communication effectively in difficult situations.
  • Efficient time management skills to meet deadlines and keep internal and external team on schedule. Ability to handle unexpected changes or challenges during the shoot and adapt accordingly.
  • Familiarity with SEO techniques and web traffic analysis.
  • Extensive knowledge of various social media platforms, current trends, and best practices.
  • Strong attention to detail, along with excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Office software, photography tools, website management, marketing platforms, and customer relationship management systems.
  • Familiar with Adobe Creative Suite for simple image resizing and photo correction as needed.
  • Self starter, self educator committed to consistent skills improvement.

Education, Experience and Certificates
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a Digital Content role or a similar position.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Background in Public Relations is advantageous.
