The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services has a full-time vacancy for Dietitian.

Summary: to plan, implement and evaluate Medical Nutrition Therapy for patients with major mental illnesses and chronic medical conditions. To provide nutrition education opportunities for patients, families, community caregivers/representatives, students, and staff.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with course work which meets the academic requirements for a Registered Dietitian as specified by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Four years' experience as a Registered Dietitian in a hospital or other accredited health care facility.

License/Certification: Must possess and maintain registration as a Registered Dietitian as authorized by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and must be licensed by the New Hampshire Board of Licensed Dietitians.


Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical assistance and makes recommendations regarding patient’s nutritional status to the interdisciplinary treatment team. Participates in treatment team process. Interfaces with team members and responds to inquiries on issues relating to nutritional care of patients.
  • Establishes, monitors, and recommends nutrition care plans and Medical Nutrition Therapy for New Hampshire Hospital patients identified at nutritional risk, following established standards of care and practice. Evaluates effectiveness of nutrition interventions and refines care plans to promote optimal outcomes. Directs Dietitian Technician in implementing nutrition care plans.
  • Assesses educational and age specific needs and teaching methods, provides individual and group nutrition education and counseling, according to the needs of the patient population and treatment plan objectives.
  • Performs nutrition consults and makes recommendations to interdisciplinary team regarding the nutritional care of patients.
  • Develops, conducts, and evaluates nutrition education programs for New Hampshire Hospital staff and students. Makes recommendations for program content and revision.
  • Supervises dietetic interns and provides guidance to meet core professional competencies for entry-level dietetics practice. Participates in program review and makes recommendations to program director.
  • Performs and participates in Quality Improvement activities to monitor and improve nutritional aspects of care. Analyzes existing diet manual and clinical nutrition policies and procedures in order to recommend effective change. Participates in scheduled department meetings.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Clinical Nutrition Manager.

Supervisors Workplace Safety Accountabilities

Ensures compliance with established hospital and departmental safety policies and procedures by:

  • Conducting periodic (minimum quarterly basis) on site reviews.
  • Completing competency-based review, when applicable.
  • Providing on the spot reinforcement/training on safety issues; referring staff to formal training programs, as appropriate.
  • Recording safety related initiatives for annual reporting.

Supports the organizational mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives as demonstrated by a positive leadership presence in unit based, departmental, hospital wide, or in public meetings/committees.

Participates in the process of continuous quality improvement by supporting unit‑based quality improvement activities. Demonstrates commitment to customer service values in professional conduct and by promoting such values in assigned staff.
