Responsibilities:
- Work with the Cook to implement recommended changes, assist in planning regular and special diet menus as prescribed by attending physicians, and assure that food is available for preparation by cooks.
- Recognize and respond to dietary emergencies, and document observations, interventions and outcomes.
- Complete forms, reports, evaluations, studies, etc. to assure control of equipment and supplies.
- Assist in developing methods to determine quality and quantity of food served.
- Meet with the Dietary Supervisor to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and the improvement of services, and assure that food service is properly maintained to meet the needs of residents.
- Assist in meal preparation and cooking under the supervision of the kitchen staff
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas
- Set up dining areas and prepare tables for meal service
- Serve meals to residents or patients in a timely and courteous manner
- Follow proper food handling and safety procedures at all times
- · Perform assigned tasks in accordance with policies and procedures.
- · Notify the Dietary Supervisor of pending absence or tardiness within the time frame described in the personnel handbook.
- · Assist the Cook in preparation of food.
- · Serve meals that are palatable and appetizing in accordance with portion control procedures, as well as for therapeutic diets in accordance with scheduled menus and sanitary regulations.
- · Inspect diet trays to assure accuracy, portion control, appealing layout, etc., and evaluate kitchen and dietary area, etc. for upkeep, supply control, cleanliness and safety.
- Attend department staff meetings.
- Operate the dishwasher, clean the kitchen area and equipment.
- Report disrepair of dietary equipment, supplies, etc.
- Help create an atmosphere of optimism, warmth, and interest in resident’s personal and health care needs.
- Communicate with co-workers at all levels to adequately meet the needs of residents.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working in a kitchen or food service in healthcare with a minimum of 6 months of long-term experience.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift heavy objects as needed
