Job Summary
VIZ Media is hiring a Design Intern - come join a team of dedicated artists and designers. The Design Intern will assist VIZ Media's Creative Department which is responsible for the design of the company's books, animation products, and marketing assets. Candidates for this internship should have previous design experience and interest in a design career. Candidates MUST be currently enrolled in a college, university, or graduate school program, OR have graduated within one year of the start of the internship.
What you'll do:
- Provide general design support and assignments based on skill level. For example, possible assignments may include:
- print and web ad updates/design
- convention collateral updates/design
- pattern/image background creation, removal, and/or color correction
- helping with design of graphic novel interiors and covers
- production work and design preparation/assistance
- Conduct simple page layout and production duties for both print and digital assets.
- Create clipping paths and touches up artwork.
- Assist in organizing and cataloging artwork/project archive.
- Assist in product research to help in the development of asset creation.
In addition to these responsibilities, perform other activities as assigned.
Required & Preferred Experience:
- Basic design skills and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (lnDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop PREFERRED)
- Experience/interest in graphic design, media publishing, and comic industry
- Proficient command of English grammar and spelling a MUST (proofing/copy editing skills PREFERRED)
- General knowledge of manga/anime helpful, but extensive knowledge is not needed
- Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously
- Computer literacy (Mac systems preferable) and experience working with Microsoft Office and Google Suite tools
All Interns Must:
- Be currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or graduate school program, OR have graduated within one year of the start of the internship
- Be able to commute to our San Francisco office (94103)
- Be legally eligible to work in the United States
- Be at least 18 years of age at the time of the start of the internship
- Be available to work Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between the hours of 10:00am to 5:00pm on weekdays, to a max of 24 hours/week
Compensation, Work Environment, and Schedule:
- This position will be compensated at a rate of $18.10/hour.
- The Summer internship schedule will run approximately 3 months, from May/June through August/September (with start/end flexibility depending on school schedule)
- VIZ Media interns are not eligible for standard VIZ Media benefits
- Approximately 90% of time spent on the job involves use of a computer; therefore, must be able to sit for extended periods and to utilize standard ergonomics practices. Primarily works in an office environment. Must be able to use standard office equipment, software, and communication tools.
