Job Title: Design Engineer

Position Summary:
The Design Engineer (DE) works closely with Design Managers, assisting them in the successful delivery of design deliverables by leading coordination efforts, completing day to day tasks, and supporting the design as needed. The Design Engineer assists the Design Managers and teams throughout the pursuit and design life cycles of the project. Design Engineers work in conjunction with DMs, Subject Matter Experts (SME), Engineers of Record (EOR), Pre-Construction, Procurement, Estimating and Operations teams to ensure quality and timeliness of design deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Review RFP documents and information to understand project requirements. Communicate requirements and track incorporation into design.
- Actively participate in design coordination meetings and design reviews.
- Schedule design review meetings.
- Build relationships with EORs, Owner representatives, as well as McCarthy SMEs, Preconstruction, Procurement, Estimating, and Operations team members
- Attend site visits as needed to collect lessons learned and perform site inspections
- Responsible for meeting minutes for design meetings: record attendees, points of discussion, action items, responsible individuals and due dates
- Review design drawings for accuracy, quality and conformance. Review drawings and compare project requirements
- Creates and maintains Design Quantity Trend Logs.
- Monitor and document action items and design scheduling for bid-level, 30%, 60%, 90% and Issue for Construction (IFC) designs
- Document control
- Procore:
- Establish distribution lists and update Project Directory for each project
- Draft requests for information (RFI) and ensure answers are sufficient. Tracks RFIs to closure.
- Draft submittals to the Owner
- Monday.com (MDC):
- Assist in maintaining project boards with up-to-date information, schedules, and action items
- Complete Basis of Design
- Update line items during all meetings as directed by DM
- Bluebeam Review (BBR):
- Upload all pertinent design documents for project team to review and mark up
- Create Studio sessions for Design Reviews. Monitor team participation and encourage involvement by all.
- SharePoint:
- Ensure all documents are correctly named, filed, and easily located
- Procore:
- Assist DM with coordinating all design scopes. Assist DM in tracking and managing changes, and investigate inconsistencies throughout design disciplines
- Familiarize self with the contract exhibit process and assist with scope development as needed
- Review owner contracts and contract exhibits. Provide markups as necessary.
- Collect and review exhibit/RFP redlines from EORs
- Develop EOR scope sheets; Request pricing from EORs; Review and descope quotes.
- Gather and upload all necessary supporting documents for design contracts, as directed by DM.
- Track status of engineering contracts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Solar Engineering, Construction Management, or related engineering degree preferred
- Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and Teams proficiency required
- Ability to use Google Earth basic features required
- Strong time management skills
- Strong work ethic and desire to work in a team environment
- Organized, self-starter and excellent communicator
- Be assertive and able to follow up and follow through
- Able to perform well and easily adapt in an exceedingly fast-paced and ever-changing environment
