Job Summary:
The OSU New Product Development Center (NPDC), an engineering extension unit of the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology at Oklahoma State University, provides Oklahoma manufacturers and inventors with university-based research teams to develop and commercialize new product concepts. These efforts may include evaluating the characteristics of existing products, establishing the status of technology, evaluating the business and financial implications of new product implementation, developing new products, updating a current product to lead the market, integrating new technology or broadening market shares with new product features.
The NPDC is seeking a Design Engineer to work in Tulsa, Oklahoma on the OSU-Tulsa campus.
The Design Engineer provides the leadership necessary to achieve the mission and goals of the NPDC by managing and completing product development projects for clients. The Design Engineer provides expertise and guidance in the area of mechanical design, works closely with the project team and manager to achieve desired outcomes, and allocates resources appropriately to assure successful project completion. The Design Engineer coordinates with NPDC business and technical staff to complete multi-disciplinary projects, engages cross-campus resources, and develops effective relationships with clients.
Travel may be required, including nights and weekends. This position is contingent upon available funding on a per-year basis.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Agricultural, Bio-Systems Engineering or related.
Proficiency in advanced mechanical engineering design principles; working experience and familiarity with designing products and mechanical assemblies; hands-on experience with CAD software (preferably Solidworks). Two years experience in a related field to include familiarity with designing products for manufacturers; hands-on experience with CAD software.
Knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles, technologies, and practices. Proficiency in 3D model and drawing development. Demonstrated ability to manage engineering projects. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, public speaking and organizational skills. A high degree of initiative, self-direction, decision making and organizational skills. A demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with coworkers, employees, supervisors and customers. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years experience designing new or modified products. One year of project management experience. Familiarity with managing undergraduate and graduate college students.
