Description
The Mission of the Southeast State Correctional Complex (SSCC), in accordance with the Department of Corrections is twofold: 1) To promote public safety, secure incarceration from the community 2) To give felons the opportunities for the capability to contribute positively to society upon release through use of constructive classification, programs, and work assignment.
The Deputy Warden (Security) plays a vital role in this mission by administering and supervising one or more administrative, operational and/or treatment programs within the SSCC.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
The Deputy Warden (Security) plays a vital role in this mission by administering and supervising one or more administrative, operational and/or treatment programs within the SSCC.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Supervises fiscal affairs, as well as personnel and inmates' grievances within the programs and provides general support to the whole Institution.
- Prepares reports and maintains program records as needed.
- Provides technical assistance to the Warden by interpreting and enforcing Departmental and Institutional policy, procedures and regulations.
- Provides assistance to the Warden in creating and revising policies and recommends procedural alternatives.
- Serves as Duty Offer for the Institution and manages the Institution in the absence of the Warden.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Have displayed the ability to complete work related activities in a professional manner.
- Be able to multitask with a proven history of sound decision making in high stress situations.
- Display the ability to think critically and analyze data to forecast positive outcomes.
- Possess the ability to adapt to the ever-changing needs of the Department of Corrections.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years of administrative experience in corrections or law enforcement.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree will substitute for one year of the correctional administrative or related experience. A Ph.D. will substitute for two years of the correctional administrative or related experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative experience in corrections, law enforcement or a related field will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): In addition to the required experience must have two years experience in the supervision of employees.
Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title perform duties within a correctional facility.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
