Under general direction of the Fire Chief plans, coordinates, manages and directs personnel and equipment within the Operations Division of the Fire Department; supervises assigned personnel, maintenance of departmental facilities and equipment.
Example of Duties:
- Manages and coordinates departmental operations including fire suppression, emergency medical services, special operations, facility and equipment maintenance, and staff training.
- Establishes and implements short and long-term goals for the Operations Division.
- Prepares and administers the Division's budget; monitors and authorizes expenditures in accordance with established procedures. Purchases departmental equipment as approved in the budget.
- Supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel; ensures staff compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Directs large-scale, all-hazards emergency response activities and/or evacuations; coordinates response activities with mutual/automatic aid partners and other outside agencies as required.
- Supervises the maintenance of records pertaining to personnel, reports, and training within the operations division of the department.
- Serves on various internal and external committees as directed. Facilitates and/or participates in a variety of meetings pertaining to departmental operations.
- Assist in the development of departmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure that complaints from the public/citizens or other City employees are addressed/ investigated.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Typical Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in Fire Protection Technology or related field; and three years' experience managing assigned municipal fire operations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced Firefighter Certification
- Fire Officer I Certification
- Emergency Medical Technician Certification
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
