Nestled at the base of the Rocky Mountains, 100 miles south of Denver, Pueblo County (pop. 170,892) stands as the regional epicenter for business, transportation, and culture in Southern Colorado. The county's largest city and county seat is Pueblo with a population of 106,524.
Reporting to the Director, the Deputy Director of Planning and Development is responsible for leading planning staff in the Land Use Division into a technologically advanced future by embracing innovation and creativity. The Deputy Director fosters a culture of excellence, learning, and collaboration among staff and supports their professional development and growth. The Deputy Director serves as acting department director in the absence of the Department Director with full authority and responsibility.
The Deputy Director is an active, responsive leader with a strong ability to provide direct, first-level supervision of employees, operations, and activities while communicating a clear and compelling vision. The Deputy Director also establishes and maintains strong, effective relationships with various stakeholders, including Pueblo County employees, entities, vendors, members of the community, and customers.
The Deputy Director assists with departmental process improvements and implements best-practices by soliciting changes to increase efficiencies, cost savings, and safety while adhering to County's policies, procedures, and protocols. In addition, this position provides exceptional customer service and general information to the public, development community, and other government agencies relating to County planning, land use and Development policies, procedures, and standards.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Lead Strategic Initiatives: Shape and implement strategic planning initiatives that align with the county's vision for sustainable development and growth.
Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with stakeholders, including residents, businesses, and government agencies, ensuring community input and buy-in.
Policy Development: Drive the formulation and execution of policies that promote responsible land use, economic development, and infrastructure improvements.
Team Leadership: Inspire and lead a resolute team of Planning and Development professionals, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Project Management: Lead major development projects, ensuring they adhere to established guidelines and contribute to the overall well-being of the community.
Compensation and Benefits
Pueblo County offers an excellent total rewards package that includes a base monthly salary in the $7,587 - $11,301 range and an excellent benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, Long Term Disability, Basic Life, AD&D, Flexible Spending Account, participation in the Pueblo County Retirement Plan, vacation leave, sick leave, paid parental leave.
Desired Qualifications
A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university, in Urban Planning or a closely related field, and at least four years of professional experience in Community Development or Regional Planning with a minimum of two years of professional experience in a supervisory capacity, and possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver's License required. A master's degree, and American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification desired but not required. Residency within Pueblo County is required.
