Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment:
- Conduct thorough oral assessments, including reviewing medical and dental histories, taking blood pressure, and examining the oral cavity for signs of diseases or abnormalities.
- Dental Cleanings:
- Perform professional dental cleanings, including scaling and root planing to remove plaque, tartar, and stains from teeth.
- Administer fluoride treatments and apply dental sealants for preventive care.
- Periodontal Therapy:
- Assist in the treatment of gum disease by providing non-surgical periodontal therapy, such as deep cleanings (scaling and root planing) and maintenance care.
- X-rays:
- Take dental radiographs (X-rays) and interpret them for diagnostic purposes.
- Patient Education:
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, diet, and lifestyle choices that affect oral health.
- Create customized home care plans for patients to maintain good oral health.
- Treatment Planning:
- Collaborate with the dentist to develop treatment plans for patients based on their oral health needs.
- Provide input on preventive and therapeutic treatments.
- Documentation:
- Maintain detailed patient records, including charting of dental conditions, treatments performed, and recommendations.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program with an associate's or bachelor's degree.
- State licensure and certification as a Dental Hygienist.
- CPR certification
- Knowledge of dental anatomy, pathology, and oral health care procedures.
- Continuing education to stay up-to-date with current best practices and technologies.
Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients and dental team members.
- Attention to detail and strong hand-eye coordination.
- Proficiency in using dental software for patient record-keeping.
- Empathy and the ability to make patients feel comfortable during procedures.
