Job description

SUMMARY
As a Dental Hygienist with Dayspring Dental, you will play a key role in providing quality dental care and achieving optimal health for our communities served. You will emphasize preventive care through dental education and clinical measures. You will develop treatment plans appropriate for each patient, with approval of covering dentist. You will complete periodontal treatment in a competent, efficient manner. You will be responsible for promoting the mission of Dayspring Health and marketing our services. This will be a part-time role working less than 30 hours per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES/EXPECTATIONS
  • Promoting oral health and disease prevention through dental education and clinical measures.
  • Creating treatment plans to maintain or restore the oral health of our patients while incorporating their desires and needs.
  • Completing periodontal and preventive treatment in a competent, efficient manner while maintaining quality of care.
  • Perform SRP and full mouth debridement.
  • Perform proper, safe administration of local anesthesia.
  • Perform proper recording of probing and charting.
  • Interpreting x-rays and diagnostic tests.
  • Monitoring growth and development of the teeth and jaws.
  • Use proper technique while taking radiographs, including exposing and developing radiographs.
  • Perform the application of topical fluoride.
  • Perform instrument sterilization, instrument conditioning, operatory disinfections, and operatory inventory.
  • May assist the Dentist with oral surgery.
  • May assists the Dentist in Phase I Dentistry.
  • Perform functions related to clerical duties, progress notes, encounter forms, appointment schedule, referrals, and internal reports.
  • Follow laws and statues related to the practice of Dental Hygiene in the state of KY.
  • Provide referrals for a continuum of care into a specialty care setting.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical/dental records of all patients in accordance with Dayspring policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Providing clinical services and health education to improve oral health of students served in our school-based clinics.
  • Reviewing and following all dental clinic protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Providing excellent customer service to all internal and external patients.
  • Providing positive input with patients and families to ensure compliance with treatment recommendations.
  • Attending dental provider meetings and participating in topics of discussion.
  • Traveling to school-based clinics and other Dayspring Dental sites.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Dental Director/Practice Manager.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Knowledge of community based dental practices.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of dental care, including HIPPA compliance.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities to satisfactorily perform these various duties related to the practice of dental hygiene: scaling, prophylaxis, Cavitron, charting, probing, proper administration of local anesthesia, exposing and developing radiographs, the application of topical fluoride, oral hygiene instruction and patient education. Expanded duties preferred.
  • Considerable knowledge of dental terminology with reference to equipment and operatory duties.
  • Considerable knowledge of the stages and treatment of periodontal disease.
  • Knowledge in the periodontal treatment of medically compromised patients.
  • Knowledge of dental assisting techniques.
  • Some knowledge of office procedures; proper use of telephone, proper dental coding procedures, maintenance of dental records, and supply procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Minimum – Associate’s degree required. Graduate of an accredited Dental Hygiene program. One (1) year experience preferred.
Licenses or Certifications: Kentucky Dental Hygiene License and CPR certification. Local Anesthesia and General Supervision permits preferred.
Computer Skills: Must be competent using electronic dental record. Dentrix experience preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Dental hygienists frequently:
  • Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Repeat the same movements.
  • Sit for long periods of time.
  • Bend or twist their body.
It is important for Dental hygienists to be able to:
  • See details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
  • Use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects.
  • Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm.
  • Understand the speech of another person.
  • Speak clearly so listeners can understand.
  • Use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects.
  • Make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls.
It is not as important, but still necessary, for Dental hygienists to be able to:
  • See details of objects that are more than a few feet away.
  • See differences between colors, shades, and brightness.
  • Move two or more limbs together (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while remaining in place.
  • Bend, stretch, twist, or reach out.
  • Use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired.
  • Focus on one source of sound and ignore others.
  • Make fast, repeated movements of fingers, hands, and wrists.
  • Determine the distance between objects.
  • Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them.
  • Be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath.
  • Coordinate movement of several parts of the body, such as arms and legs, while the body is moving.
  • Choose quickly and correctly among various movements when responding to different signals.
  • Adjust body movements or equipment controls to keep pace with speed changes of moving objects.
  • React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
  • Keep or regain the body's balance or stay upright when in an unstable position.
  • Use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects.
  • Use muscles for extended periods without getting tired.
