Summary of Duties:
The Dental Hygienistis a critical part of the team. This role is responsible for patient education and the delivery of outstanding preventative and periodontal dental treatment. Also demonstrate behavior to ensure a positive, professional work environment.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Review schedules daily to ensure full and effective schedules.
- Greet patient in a friendly manner and seat patient on time.
- Carefully review patient health history and dental history forms and update as necessary.
- Ensure any financial obligations are discussed, approved, and documented prior to starting treatment.
- Ensure treatment consent forms are discussed, signed, and documented prior to starting treatment.
- Accurately chart each patient’s periodontal health.
- Efficiently take necessary, prescribe radiographs.
- Perform thorough and gentle prophylaxis and perio maintenance for patients.
- Perform scaling and root planning as prescribed.
- Check on patient comfort during treatment; help alleviate anxiety.
- Teach proper oral hygiene techniques to patients.
- Reinforce doctor treatment plans. Communicating in an understandable, professional manner.
- Schedule recall appointments efficiently and effectively.
- Maintain protocols for sterilization and cleaning of equipment and treatment rooms.
- Assist with sterilization.
- Follow all OSHA, CDC, Radiation Safety.
- Emergency/Disaster, and Fraud, Waste and Abuse protocols.
- Maintain CE requirements as defined by the MN Board of Dentistry.
- Treat all patients and co-workers with respect and dignity.
Qualifications
- Minnesota Dental Hygiene Licensure.
- Current CPR certification in American Heart Association, Basic Life Support for the healthcare providers.
- Certified to administer nitrous oxide and local anesthesia.
- High degree of skill with hand instrumentation and a cavitron.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentist, and coworkers.
- Strong team player.
