Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Craniofacial and Surgical Care provides a diverse approach to treatment for patients with craniofacial or oral and maxillofacial conditions, including those with multiple or complex oral health problems. The Orthodontics discipline focuses on the treatment of irregularities of the teeth, jaws, and bite relationship in children and adults.

Position Summary:

This position is eligible for a SIGN ON BONUS of $2,000 to be paid in two installments:
$1,000 within 30 days of your hire date and $1,000 12 months after hire date.

The Dental Assistant Supervisor’s primary purpose is to maintain continuity of Dental Assistant clinical coverage and to ensure all Dental Assistant duties are completed effectively and in a timely manner. This entails developing weekly schedules of assignment for Dental Assistants between the Orthodontic Dental Faculty Practice and the Graduate Orthodontic Clinic. This position will supervise the orthodontic Dental Assistant (DA) team and works with the Lead Dental Assistant to ensure that daily adjustment of clinical assignments meets goals of the unit to provide excellent patient care. The Dental Assistant Supervisor will set goals with Dental Assistants (including Lead Dental Assistant) and conducts performance reviews and administers disciplinary measures as needed. The Dental Assistant Supervisor will review all leave requests submitted by Dental Assistants to ensure adequate clinical staffing, including TIM approvals. This position will facilitate setting group cultural and inclusivity goals and ensures optimal communication across all Dental Assistants. Coordinates DA Team contributions to lab work on an as need basis. The Dental Assistant Supervisor will collaborate with the Business Officer to assist in identifying training and development opportunities for Dental Assistants, including the Lead Dental Assistant. This position will function as a contributing member of the DA team and provides routine orthodontic clinical assisting services.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalency and completion of an accredited dental assisting program; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Trained Orthodontics Dental Assistant. Ability to develop plans to accomplish work operations and objectives. Ability to schedule and assign work to use resources efficiently. Ability to observe and assess work, provide feedback, supervise staff, and administer and ensure compliance with human resources policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Minimum of two years’ experience in orthodontics dental assisting. Minimum of two years of experience managing Dental Assistants in an orthodontic setting. Experience with dental appliances, dental lab and ordering supplies. Bilingual in Spanish.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements :

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time without sitting.

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time (more than 20 hours a week) employee are eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours per week).

This SHRA Sign-on Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire. All recipients must sign the Pay Back Agreement form.
