Job description

The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Defensive Analyst to support the Football program.
The Defensive Analyst is responsible for providing the football coaching staff with valuable information designed to improve the efficiency and success of the program, on and off the field. The incumbent will conduct in-depth research and perform high level analysis, utilizing various platforms in order to generate statistical reports and evaluate critical facets of the program. The resulting efforts of their work will allow coaches and staff to streamline processes, focus on competitive advantage, and improve practice and game protocols to achieve desired outcomes. The Defensive Analyst position is a non-coaching role requiring considerable experience either playing, coaching, or analyzing the sport of football at the collegiate or professional level.
The Defensive Analyst will be responsible for duties including, but not limited to:
  • Ensure quality data is collected for analysis and continually verify integrity of the data.
  • Synthesize data analysis of key program aspects, interpreting and reporting trends and areas for improvement for the football office.
  • Create graphs, reports, and presentations of results in order to make strategic and programmatic decisions.
  • Consistently provide feedback regarding opportunities for efficiency improvement, streamlining processes, and expanding competitive advantage.
  • Communicate with various internal and external constituencies to establish and strengthen relationships, provide information, collect data, and execute plans.
  • Play an instrumental role in coaches' clinics, community relations, fundraising, and recruiting efforts.
  • Consult with supervisor when faced with a more challenging problem or a situation beyond the scope of their duties or expertise.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Excitement about building our program; a positive and high energy level with the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment, working quickly and completing tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated genuine concern and interest for the welfare of student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of NCAA, ACC and institutional rules and regulations.
  • Experience with Visio software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability and desire to perform accurate, detail-oriented work, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor.
  • Proven organizational skills and an openness to new approaches and new ideas.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and sound judgments.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. This position includes a considerable amount of travel.

Required Qualifications
Education : Bachelor's Degree
Experience : Relevant experience such as some experience playing, coaching, or analyzing the sport of football at the collegiate or professional level.
