Position Description
Advertised Job Summary Perform professional duties in areas of academic advising, orientation, and graduation application for undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences. Communicate advising policies and procedures of the college and university to students, faculty, and departmental staff. Assist with orientation, recruitment, and other advising-related programming in the Office of Undergraduate Studies.
Minimum Qualifications Master's degree and 1 year of related experience or a Bachelor's degree and 3 or more years of related experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Knowledge of curricular requirements in undergraduate degree programs in the College of Arts and Sciences. Knowledge of student-related offices and programs at the university, e.g., admissions, registration, university advising center, etc. Effective communication skills; ability to work effectively with students, faculty, parents, coworkers, and other university staff. Skills in administrative computing; use of student information databases, word processing applications, and web applications.
Job Duties
Job Duty Process student advisement forms, perform senior checks, and assist with questions regarding completion of degree requirements for students in College of Arts and Sciences majors.
Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 35 Job Duty Serve as point of contact for students regarding study abroad: process forms, assist with course articulations, and answer questions regarding academic and graduation planning related to study abroad.
Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty Assist with activities that support undergraduate advising and the undergraduate mission of the college, including conducting information sessions for students and parents during recruitment, admitted student sessions, open houses, first-year and transfer orientations, family weekend, and other events.
Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 15 Job Duty Serve as academic advisor to a caseload of 50-60 undergraduate students as assigned by supervisor, as needed to cover temporary overload or substitute advisor needs within the college.
Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty Pursue professional development and training to stay current with job duties and contribute to the overall success of the College of Arts and Sciences by performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.
