Registered Nurse (RN) - General Medicine Inpatient Unit for Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Portsmouth, Virginia
Qualifications:
- Associate Degree of Nursing or higher from an NLNAC, CCNE accredited program, or State Board of Nursing accredited nursing program.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an RN working in an inpatient medical/surgical setting within the last two (2) years.
- Possession and maintenance of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any of the 50 States, DC, or U.S. Territories.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen (for access to Government computer systems).
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care and promote interdisciplinary teamwork.
- Implement comprehensive plans of care based on the nursing process, considering emotional and discharge planning needs of patients.
- Collaborate in interdisciplinary rounds to address patient needs across the continuum of care and revise care plans based on patient response.
- Respond quickly and appropriately to changes in patients' conditions, taking a leadership role in emergency situations.
- Ensure proper use of equipment and report malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and encourage two-way communication with colleagues and patients.
- Adhere to established documentation protocols.
- Provide wound management, nutritional guidance, and psychological support to patients and families.
- Deliver effective teaching appropriate to the audience's level of understanding.
- Offer emotional support and crisis intervention to patients and families.
- Operate and navigate automated systems such as CHCS, AHLTA, ADS, Essentris, and Clinical Information System (CIS).

Work Schedule:
- Full-time position, 80 hr/two weeks, with shifts between 7 AM - 7 PM or 7 PM - 7 AM.
- Nurses work six 12.5 hr shifts and one 8 hr shift per two-week period.
- Coverage positions, allowing self-scheduling for day or night shifts.

Pay: $43.00 - $49.00 per hour
