GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Dean of Academic Studies reports to the Provost/Executive Vice President of Student and Academic Affairs. The Dean of Academic Studies provides broad leadership and administrative responsibilities for academic personnel, programs, and services, including those of the academic programs and faculty. Duties and responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to, the following:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Review completion rates, success rates, retention rates, licensure rates, and transfer rates for students enrolled in programs within the academic division.
  • Maintain positive relationships with area high schools, the Southeast Texas Regional Council, other colleges, the Texas Education Agency, and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in regard to all affairs related to the academic division.
  • Annually review and evaluate present programs and curricular for relevancy and consistency in providing quality educational experiences for students ensuring compliance with Federal, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and accreditation standards.
  • Propose and develop new programs and curricula to meet the measurable needs of the service area and the State of Texas according to Federal, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and accreditation guidelines.
  • Facilitate and prepare any SACSCOC documents related to prospectus and substantive change requirements affiliated within the academic division.
  • Monitor all external agency policies, rules, and standards impacting all areas of the academic division.
  • Ensure that internal and external standards (various state agencies, boards, and accrediting agencies) are met for all programs within the academic division, including but not limited to course objectives, content, exams, grading practices, etc.
  • Support the completion of the Program Learning Outcomes for all programs in the academic division and prompt submission of the annual plans.
  • Assist in the preparation of informational materials (catalog, handbooks, manuals, and brochures) for the promotion and publication of programs and services within the academic division and college.
  • Serve as a liaison and College ambassador with business, industry, government, and educational agencies on matters concerning the academic division.
  • Compile and oversee budget preparations for all departments within the academic division.
  • Provide leadership in the instructional and administrative assessment of the academic division. Prepare plans that clearly express divisional goals, objectives, and action plans, which are performance-based and measurable.
  • Provide leadership in facilitating and/or arranging professional development and enrichment activities and projects for academic divisional faculty and staff.
  • Oversee the resolution of daily operational and long-term issues involving divisional grievances, educational policies, and educational procedures.
  • Provide oversight for curriculum and program development, program review, and educational policies to ensure quality educational programs that remain relevant to university transfer partners.
  • Oversee faculty and staff evaluations, development, mentoring, disciplinary and discharge actions, promotions, and tenure for the academic division.
  • Ensure thorough reporting, research, and prompt submission for institutional reports affiliated with the academic division. Examples: annual Developmental Education Program Survey (DEPS), annual Developmental Education Plan, annual General Education Assessment Plans, and Accreditation Reports.
  • Provide leadership for articulation and transfer agreements, class scheduling, catalog revisions, handbook revisions, etc. for the academic division.
  • Coordinate, review annually, and maintain university transfer agreements and MOUs with partnering institutions.
  • Review, evaluate, and validate the performance of faculty and staff within the academic division for the purpose of reappointment, tenure, promotion, and merit consistent with the goals and policies of the College.
  • Assist and provide leadership in the advisement, recruitment, and retention of students.
  • Ensure faculty workloads are consistent with the policies and procedures of the College.
  • Ensure courses meet curricular rigor and quality as well as appropriate scheduling to meet the needs of students and the community.
  • Coordinate and oversee the availability and functionality of instructional classrooms, computer labs, and/or skills labs used by the academic division.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Serve on statewide and institutional committees.
  • Participate in community service activities and organizations.
  • Attend ceremonial and student activities.
  • Engage in professional development activities, give presentations, and moderate panel discussions.
  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications:

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTSEducation
Requires a minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with graduate studies in an academic discipline or higher education. A doctoral degree is preferred.ExperienceRequires a minimum of three years of progressive college administrative experience with at least two years at a higher administrative level preferred. Community college, lower division, or two-year college teaching experience is strongly preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects, priorities, budgets, and personalities; maintain a high profile in community activities.Physical RequirementsNormal ambulatory requirement; extreme cognitive skills required; advanced speech-communication required; advanced written communication required; acute visual requirements; normal or corrected hearing required; and normal travel frequently. Requires constant sitting, walking, and seeing. Requires frequent standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 25 pounds; operating a calculator, personal computer, and various office equipment. Requires infrequent stooping, bending, sorting and filing.Security SensitiveThis position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas EducationCode §51.215.WORKING CONDITIONS

Salary:

$105,000
