Genesis10 is seeking a Database Administrator - Sr for a contract with our client in Minneapolis, MN. 30% Remote.
Job Description:
Provides technical expertise and guidance in the use of database management systems. Responsible for database access methods, device allocation, validation checks, file organization, indexing methods, protection and security, documentation, guidelines, troubleshooting, automated backup procedures, and database design. Responsible for database integration and system testing.
Required Basic Qualifications:
  • Explain what the scope of the work/project is? Project Overview, deliverables (what is this person responsible for).
  • The existing OT DBA (Operations and Technology Database Administration) Team supports client's Gas SCADA environment, Transmission, DEMS/EMS SCADA environment, Distribution ADMS SCADA environment as well as nuclear applications. This is what makes up the OT DBA team. Currently, there is a 3-person team in place to support all databases across all the systems listed above which includes patching, tuning, project support, etc. The team is responsible for activities such as building the environment, performance tuning, user administration, database refreshes, etc. within a hybrid environment which utilizes both SQL and Oracle servers. The team also manages MySQL MariaDB, as well as projects within the PostgreSQL database management system. The team uses Oracle in Windows and Linux. As such, this resource should have knowledge of both.

  • SQL server running in Microsoft platform
  • There is a helpdesk email inbox that supports proactive/reactive monitoring. The resource will start their day by checking the shared email box, read emails, look through ticketing system for any work requests requested by application teams. From there, the resource would collaborate with the hiring leader (SR IT Solutions Lead) and other team members to get the work done. This can include operational (O&M) activities, a capital project that is in the pipeline that team is supporting. The role consists of a mix of different day-to-day activities.
  • What is the size of the group this position will be supporting? Who are some of the key players this person will be working with?
  • Currently, the team consists of 3 Operations and Technology Database Administration DBA's. These 3, along with the new resource, will be supporting Xcel's Gas SCADA environment, Transmission, DEMS/EMS SCADA environment, Distribution ADMS SCADA environment as well as nuclear applications. This resource will mainly be working with the SR IT Solutions Lead who will work with team to designate tasks. The team may reach out to application development team in some cases. Internal facing only.
  • What are the main technology application/software skills/experience this resource will be required to possess?
  • SQL Server This resource must know how to manage and administer different SQL server versions; 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2019 database versions. Should understand how to perform upgrades (side by side, in place upgrades), should also know how to administer Oracle Database 19c in Linux and Windows platforms. Should also have knowledge of SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services), coding, package deployment, integrations, database mirroring, log shipping and replication on the SQL side, Data Guard on the Oracle side, how to implement tracking/tracing on the Oracle side, Windows clustering, AlwaysOn. In addition to scripting (PowerShell), should know how to write TC and PLC code, should also have knowledge of how to manage PostgreSQL and MySQL MariaDB. Again, knowledge of Windows + Linux platform is a must!
  • Describe work environment / team culture (supportive/collaborative, teamwork or individual contributor)?
  • Both supportive/collaborative and an individual contributor in that they are responsible for driving their own work to completion, however, the work is very much based on a collaborative team effort.
  • Aside from having the required skill set, approximately how long will it take to train on client's process, procedures/policy? This team does have a bit of a complex environment, which could take 1-2 months for the resource to understand, however, the resource should already be coming into the role with knowledge of/experience with technology/skills listed in question 5 above from day 1.
  • There is an on-call rotation, however, there are not too many after hours calls; approximately 1-2 per month. Most of the work within the team has DTE (Daytime Exceptions) in which the changes need to be completed within the day as they work directly with the control centers. Typically, this resource will work standard/core hours, however, some business units do not utilize the DTE and per the change management process, non DTE changes take place between 7 PM to 6:00 AM.

Compensation:
Hourly W2 pay rate $55.00-$64.00
