As part of the Data Security Team, the Data Security Associate is responsible for the data sanitation/destruction of data-bearing devices. In some cases, these devices will be utilized in laptops and computers and provided out into the community and in other cases, the devices will be destroyed beyond use. The successful candidate will have proficiency or experience handling sensitive business or personal information, and knowledge and awareness of hard disk drive (HDD) and data storage devices. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in IT Asset Disposition or data destruction.
You will ensure that the work of the department is done efficiently, effectively, and meets the goals and objectives set forth for your area. The Human-I-T warehouse is NAID AAA-certified for Data Security, so all employees must pass a third-party background check and drug screen as a condition of employment. This position reports directly to the Data Security Supervisor within the IT department.
Job Responsibilities & Duties:
- Accurately capture and upload all relevant device information into our inventory management system. This includes; finding the serial number and the manufacturer on a computer, possibly removing hardware
- Perform hardware maintenance of computers and electronic devices whilst being able to recognize significant pieces of hardware
- Test IT hardware, can include, but will not be limited to: systems, servers, networking devices, laptops, and printers
- Physical crushing or shredding of data-bearing devices
- Adhere to strict data sanitization and destruction procedures & regulations when processing data-bearing assets
- Maintain the cleanliness and professional appearance of the department
- Assist with the installation and updates of new hardware and software and help train employees on its use
- Offer suggestions for possible upgrades, improvements, and changes within the IT department
- Maintain IT security controls documentation
- Suggest recommendations, create security policies and ensure they are implemented with support and mitigation during implementation
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs
Education:
- A high school diploma/GED or an equivalent required
- A+ Certification preferred
Experience:
- 1-3 years of Data Security experience in a similar role
- Experience working in a warehouse environment/capacity preferred
- Experience with MS2019, Acrobat adobe PDF, Windows, and macOS
Skills:
- Basic knowledge of a wide variety of office and enterprise-grade IT equipment
- Able to learn fast and adapt
