The Graduate internship program at Premera is focused on two key objectives. The first is to undergo a learning experience that provides increased knowledge about the insurance industry and develop professional experience related to the interns’ area of study while at Premera. The second key objective for the intern is to support the business and add value through a variety of specified tasks, defined projects and planned out assignments that support business unit goals and initiatives. The intern is responsible for completing these assignments as outlined and supervised by the manager. The intern is responsible for completing a set of learning objectives as outlined in a development plan that is created jointly with the manager.
As a Data ScienceGraduate Student Summer Intern, you will work under the guidance of data scientists and AI engineers within Premera’s Corporate Data & Analytics Data Science in the development and deployment of AI/ML solutions. Throughout the course of the internship, the intern will be exposed to ideation sessions, prototyping and AI/ML Ops activities.
This is a virtual/telecommuter internship.
What you'll do:
  • With guidance from the manager and mentor, complete assignments in support of specific projects or business initiatives.
  • Provide manager with regular status updates on progress against goals.
  • Participate in departmental meetings as appropriate.
  • Attend planned learning and networking events sponsored by the corporate internship program.
  • Complete a final presentation that summarizes project work and provides recommendations.
What you'll bring:
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in Computer Science/Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related. (Required)
  • Familiarity developing and optimizing ML solutions using languages like Python and common libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib and scikit-learn.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute complex assignments, with supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work professionally/effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data to outline business case and make recommendations.

The pay for this role will vary based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s geographic location, market conditions, and specific skills and experience.
National Salary Range:
National Plus Salary Range:
$41,600.00 - $70,000.00
  • National Plus salary range is used in higher cost of labor markets including Western Washington and Alaska.
