This is a temporary role lasting 4-6 months.
The mission of San Francisco Department of Public Health's HIV Health Services (HHS) section is to oversee and ensure a state-of-the-art, client centered care that improves and sustains the quality of life of people with HIV. HHS collaborates with federal, state, and local partners to promote health equity and to maintain an excellent HIV healthcare system that is comprehensive and sustainable. HealthRight360 and HHS are seeking to hire two Data Entry Specialists to support local implementation of a statewide HIV database that makes tracking the quantity and quality of services, as well as demographics and equity of services and outcomes, possible. These positions are both short-term, and the project is anticipated to be 4-6 months in duration and will support both the outgoing and incoming database systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Enter demographic and medical data into various electronic systems, including ARIES, HIV Care Connect, and potentially EPIC while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data.
- Keep highly sensitive Protected Health Information (PHI) confidential and following established IT security protocols.
- Run reports to check on data entered weekly and keeping track of all services and medical data entered daily.
- Run quality assurance checks on data that are part of a shared database.
- Provide administrative support to HHS team when coordination is needed.
- Enhance data reporting, and therefore potentially the quality of services, received for approximately 3,000 clients receiving services funded under HHS grants and contracts.
- Join small HIV Health Services team on site in San Francisco during this project.
- Enter demographic and medical data into secure electronic databases from reports extracted from an Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- EHR chart look-ups to fill in data gaps for completeness in federal grant reporting.
- Assist in local San Francisco implementation of a new State-developed database.
- Ensure data is accurately flowing into new system by running reports and completing chart look-ups to verify data accuracy.
- Help evaluate accuracy of Data Migration from previous system to new system.
Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience working in medical facility, clinic, or medical office, or medical billing department preferred.
- Some prior knowledge of HIV medical terms and general medical terms preferred.
- Ability to read and understand electronic medical record charts.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to review work independently.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Professionalism, punctuality, and reliability.
- Good time management skills.
- Proficient in Excel and Word.
