Position Summary
Skagit Valley College (SVC) is accepting applications for a Data Management & Analytics (DATA) Associate Faculty (part-time).
Data Management and Analytics (DATA) is a forward-thinking, interdisciplinary program that allows students to serve as a contractor, consult for businesses, or get an entry level job in the area of Data Management and Analytics. This position will provide instruction for various DATA course offerings. The DATA curriculum focuses on the theory, organization, and process of data collection, transmission, analysis, and utilization. More advanced concepts such as cloud ecosystems, data engineering, machine learning web services, and data security are taught in the DATA program.
This is a hybrid program. This position will provide classroom instruction and a weekly connection opportunity for the program cohort on the Mount Vernon campus, virtual instruction, and student support in multiple modalities. This position will report to the Academic Dean.
Part-time faculty positions are typically filled on a quarterly basis. Part-time faculty are responsible for preparing and providing instruction to students as required by program design.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide effective classroom and online instruction in Intro to Data and its Applications; Exploring Data Science and Technological Applications; Cloud and Technological Ecosystems; Relational Databases and SQL; Big Data & Data Analytics; Business Intelligence and Predictive Analytics; Ethics and Law in Data and Analytics; Current Trends in Computing Futures; and/or Data Security;
  • Deliver culturally appropriate curriculum that reflects diversity of student experience;
  • Express appropriate awareness of the history of underrepresented groups and promote an equitable work and learning environment;
  • Create a positive learning environment for students using diverse teaching methods to support and enhance student success;
  • Develop and provide class syllabi to students and the academic office;
  • Assess, monitor, and document student performance;
  • Work collaboratively with other program faculty teaching courses that quarter;
  • Recommend modifications and improvements to course curriculum and program design;
  • Fulfill part-time faculty responsibilities in accordance with the negotiated agreement and Skagit Valley College policies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of modern Data Management and Analytics concepts, techniques, and tools;
  • Knowledge of cloud ecosystems, architectural principles, security best practices, and key cloud services for Data Management and Analytics;
  • Knowledge of data modeling with modern BI platforms including Power Query;
  • Knowledge of data science real-world scenarios;
  • Knowledge of data security risks, access control and permissions; disaster planning, and organizational security preparation, processes, and responses;
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks;
  • Knowledge of machine learning; preparing data for predictive modeling; and machine learning web services;
  • Ability and willingness to employ continuous improvement in curriculum, teaching, and assessment;
  • Ability and willingness to teach at the Mount Vernon campus, online, and in a hybrid/ multiple-modality format;
  • Impart a productive academic mindset that teaches all students-regardless of background-that they are capable of learning with practice and effort;
  • Familiarity with active learning strategies inclusive of all cultures and backgrounds;
  • Act according to the principles of integrity, respect, open and honest communication, collaboration, and compassion.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Three (3) years of Data Management and Analytics experience;
  • Experience in technology ecosystems in the cloud using ethical practices and security standards;
  • Able to successfully work in virtual and hybrid environments;
  • Teaching experience in education or industry;
  • Strong computer and web technological skills.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Five (5) years of Data Management and Analytics experience including two (2) years of leadership or project management;
  • Industry experience in technology ecosystems in the cloud, specifically with Data Management and Analytics services;
  • Industry experience with machine learning and predictive analytics;
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Data Analytics, Data Science, Informatics, or related field
  • Higher education teaching experience, especially in a community and technical college setting.

Salary, Benefits, Conditions of Employment, Application Procedure
Salary and Benefits:
The salary rate for part-time faculty is in accordance with the negotiated agreement and may be subject to change based on legislative mandates. In order to be eligible for benefits, state regulations must be met.
Rate of Pay: Faculty compensation units (FCU) is computed by total hours (lecture, lab, clinical) identified on the approved course outline for a given course, divided by eleven. Part-time faculty pay is computed by multiplying the faculty compensation unit rate by the number of faculty compensation units. The current FCU rate at Step A is $763.00
Example of Associate Faculty pay (this is for illustrative purposes only):
  • Course: BISC 220 | 33 lecture, 44 lab
  • 33 + 44 = 77
  • 77/11= 7 FCUs
  • A Step A faculty member would be paid 7 x FCU rate $763 = $5,341

Conditions of Employment:
