Job description

As an AI Data Engineer in the Data and AI Centre Of Excellence, you will work with senior technical and data staff, data product owners, and AI/ML scientists across IDEXX to support the implementation of data workflows. You will manage data pipelines for complex products that include discovery, imaging, clinical, and operational solutions and may consist of AI/ML solutions. Data engineering will impact search/retrieval, processing, tagging, and publishing of curated data sets to support and improve AI/ML model performance over time. You will interact with many of IDEXX's core data streams, including new streams emerging from R&D innovation pipelines.
IDEXX Data and AI Centre Of Excellence (COE) develops and delivers Data and AI assets and solutions to enhance IDEXX products, services, internal operations, and business practices. It is a large team of talented engineers, architects, data scientists, and analysts driving cutting-edge AI innovation in veterinary care. We create solutions that will shape the technological landscape of IDEXX as it builds innovative products and services for customers and employees.
Our technology stack: Python, Databricks, Hadoop, TensorFlow, PyTorch, PySpark, Snowflake and AWS
In this role:

  • You will implement scalable, robust distributed data pipelines and support machine learning operations workflows across diverse data sources.
  • You will collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, engineering teams, and other data consumers to define requirements and develop solutions.
  • You will work with data, machine learning, and DevOps stacks, including Databricks, Snowflake, AWS, and Azure.
  • You will understand structural requirements and define standards for storing, consuming, integrating, and managing data for machine learning applications.
  • You will solve core data-oriented problems like missing, duplicates, or incorrect data. You will provide performance-tuning solutions for applications and databases.
  • You will keep updated on the latest Data Engineering best practices and innovations.
  • You will hone experience in advanced Data Engineering practices for design and explore opportunities to propose novel Data Engineering practices that take advantage of or support emerging technologies, e.g., GenAI/Generative AI.

What you need to succeed:
  • You have a relevant technical degree and at least 4 years of Data Engineering experience.
  • You are proficient with:

- one or more major cloud providers (e.g. AWS preferably)
- big data platforms such as Spark, Databricks and Delta Lake
- Git and hosted Git services such as Github
  • You have experience building robust, fault-tolerant data pipelines that collect, assemble and potentially transform and aggregate unorganized data distributed into databases or data sources such as operational data stores or data lakes.
  • You managed data pipelines across various stages of the lifecycle, and are interested in engaging in the entire lifecycle from exploration, production, and supporting systems (e.g. disaster recovery, monitoring).
  • You understand the design of data warehouse, data lake, data lakehouse, and data mesh architectures.
  • You can build data pipelines that integrate multiple types of data (table-like, images, text documents, etc.) backend data systems using Python.
  • You have experience with:

- building continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) systems
- infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g. Terraform, AWS Cloud Formation)
-SQL and NoSQL databases
- cloud object storage (e.g. S3)
- containerization such as Docker, Kubernetes and AWS ECS.
  • You are interested in learning or developing an understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) methods to help deliver high-caliber Data and AI products.
  • It would be an advantage if you have some experience building and deploying web applications and APIs and Certification in Data Engineering, AI/ML or related topics.
