Primary Purpose of Position Reporting to the Head of Digital Scholarship and Research Data Services, this individual will develop and provide services that support students, faculty and researchers in the discovery, use, preservation, and Visualization of data. The individual will coordinate and teach instruction sessions and programming related to research data management and data visualization and will provide consultations for researchers in collaboration with subject librarians. This is a twelve-month, tenure-track faculty position. The faculty rank of the candidate selected will be determined based on the candidate's experience. The work schedule includes some evenings and weekends.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit The mission of F. D. Bluford Library is to support and advance teaching, learning, and research at N.C. A&T through user-focused services, technologies, and physical and virtual learning spaces. We ensure individuals have access to globally trusted information resources that equip them with the knowledge to provide solutions to society's challenges. The library serves nearly 13,500 students, over 650 faculty, and the residents of the Piedmont Triad region. The library is a select depository for federal and state publications. Open 24 hours a day, library users have access to over a million print and electronic resources, technology-enhanced group study rooms, over 200 computer workstations, wireless access throughout the building, mobile Internet devices, and archives that document the history of the University, and the region.
Minimum Requirements o ALA-accredited master's or other advanced degree appropriate to the position.
o Experience with data management and data visualization in scholarly settings.
o Understanding of the library's role in research data services.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education o Demonstrated experience with tools and technologies for data visualization, such as R, Python, or Tableau.
o Familiarity with supporting or educating users on geospatial data or GIS-related applications.
o Understanding of research data management practices and tools.
o Training or experience with data description, curation, and preservation.
o Knowledge of data across the disciplines
o Experience teaching data skills and collaborating to build data education initiatives.
o Ability to collaborate effectively and work in a team environment
o Commitment to fostering an environment of equity, diversity, and inclusion
