Job description

One Million Degrees is seeking a highly organized and resourceful Data and Technology Specialist with great attention to detail and a belief in the transformative power of education and opportunity. Our team is committed to maintaining detailed and accurate Data and using that data to inform best practices, engage students and volunteers, and secure funding. An ideal candidate will have an affinity for systems-thinking and an appreciation for the value of data as a tool to measure performance and inform goals and strategies. They will also be skilled in time management and able to effectively balance competing priorities.

As we work toward our ambitious goal of increasing the number of scholars we serve from 1,000 to over 4,000 in 2027, we are focused on improving program delivery, making process improvements, maintaining strong data systems, and creating efficiencies using Data and Technology. The Data and Technology Specialist role is an excellent opportunity to identify opportunities for improvement, propose creative and streamlined solutions, and gain experience supporting change management and process rollouts.
Key responsibilities include Salesforce support and database management, program delivery support, staff training, and basic data analysis.
The Data and Technology Specialist will report to the Senior Manager of Data and Technology and work collaboratively across departments to continuously develop and refine OMD's operations practices, supporting a culture of innovation and impactful use of resources to achieve our mission.
Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Salesforce Support and Database Management

  • Maintain and update internal and external data calendars and share action items with staff as major milestones approach
  • Request data from college partners in accordance with existing data calendars
  • Prepare data for mass-upload into Salesforce so that staff have access to up-to-date information
  • Periodically create and/or update Salesforce dashboards so that staff have updated snapshots of data that is pertinent to their work
  • Help develop and maintain data quality assurance protocols
  • Support Data and Finance Specialist with scholar payment preparation and reconciliation of financial records
  • Build out and maintain forms in FormAssembly and conduct periodic data audits to ensure that form responses properly map to Salesforce
  • Monitor the Technology email inbox and Salesforce Cases to troubleshoot staff, student, and coach technology issues

Data Analysis
  • Fielding and analyzing surveys of OMD stakeholders (students, coaches, staff, college partners)
  • Analyze and report on program outcomes and progress for internal and external parties
  • Retroactively assess performance and resource utilization to help develop improvements, efficiencies, and other relevant strategies
  • Inform student recruitment strategies by analyzing and explaining past take-up trends
  • Understand & explain findings from the Randomized Control Trial with UChicago and support with the implementation of their upcoming study

Process Improvement & Staff Training
  • Identify efficiencies in current processes and document process updates, particularly related to the scaling of the organization
  • Collaborate closely with the Volunteer and Coaching Team to create and upload coach groups and to implement and document efficiencies in the scholar-coach matching process and tracking in Salesforce
  • Prepare and facilitate various staff trainings in collaboration with other departments
  • Support with change management as our program grows and new processes are initiated. This may include implementation planning, communicating decisions, leading trainings, monitoring progress, and offering additional support.
  • Develop data security best practices and staff training and establish a process for enforcing and tracking periodic staff data security training
  • Document Salesforce and other processes and help build out our library of Knowledge Articles and other training materials

Relevant Skills
  • Intermediate Excel required (basic formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.)
  • Experience working with large data sets
  • Experience with CRM (Salesforce preferred)
  • Experience with data visualization preferred (Microsoft D365, PowerBI, etc.)

Benefits and Compensation
  • Salary: $55,000-$58,000
