Knowledge of agricultural life science research (e.g., agronomic, environmental, ecological and biotech).
Knowledge of documenting and sharing data sets for public access.
Knowledge of command line and/or programming languages.
Job Description:
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is seeking to hire a Research Data Analyst as a Data Analyst II to help researchers assemble, organize, and prepare data derived from research for publication and long-term storage. This position will work with large and small teams of researchers, including students and staff, to organize, document, analyze, and publish Research Data on a variety of topics. A successful candidate can switch projects as needed to prioritize deadlines, provide a high level of customer service to facilitate teamwork, and be comfortable working with a variety of data types, including spreadsheets, GIS, images, etc. This position will work with researchers and collaborators from across campus with varied levels of experience with data and technology.
This position will operate as part of the University Library's Research Data Services unit. As a team member, this position will perform tasks, such as preparing data sets for public access, and leading or assisting with the unit's other activities.
This is a 1-year term position with the potential for renewal based on continued funding.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
Summary
  • Provides data analytic support to researchers and prepares data for public access.
  • Provides training and direction on data management best practices and advocates Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) data principles to researchers.
  • Helps researchers design and optimize data pipelines throughout the research lifecycle.

The successful candidate for this position will have strong communication, customer service, and analytical thinking skills. They will also have the ability to communicate information to a variety of audiences in a timely manner.
Duties and responsibilities:
  • Ability to work well alone and in teams.
  • Adapt to work with researchers and collaborators from across campus with varied levels of experience with data management and a variety of technologies.
  • Provide high level of customer service through prompt, clear, and responsive communication.
  • Assist in the preparation, cleansing, and verification of structured and unstructured data.
  • Consult with researchers to solve data pipeline and analysis problems.
  • Train and assist users, managers, and technical staff regarding data access, use, organization, and storage, maximizing design effectiveness.

• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems
• Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests
• May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
• May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
• Provides guidance to students
