Data Analyst - Division of Access and Engagement
The Division of Access and Engagement (DAE) is recruiting for a Data Analyst. This professional will work collaboratively across the division and with campus partners to supply coordinated, actionable information to decision-makers. Reporting to the Executive Director for Access and Engagement, this role will support DAE and the campus community by analyzing data from across campus to discover and interpret trends, patterns, and relationships, while developing and presenting visualizations (e.g., graphs and infographics). This individual will be responsible for running existing and writing new reports from institutional databases. They will also clean, code, and archive data, linking it from multiple sources, and importing it from other external sources. They will work with the rest of the assessment team to create sustainable methods to communicate survey data to campus partners through reports and presentations.
The Data Analyst will focus on operational data projects to help DAE and university stakeholders make informed decisions about recruitment and retention efforts. To this end, this role will monitor and report on important trends related to enrollment, employment, retention of students, staff, and faculty, graduation rates, and staff and student engagement. The professional will also assist with evaluating processes and initiatives designed to foster access.
Responsibilities:
40% Accountability Responsibilities: Initiatives
The selected professional will recommend metrics to be explored and methods of analysis to determine the effectiveness of recruitment and retention efforts at the institutional level. They will also work with various campus partners to develop processes for annually assessing the impact of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across the institution. To this end, the ideal professional will have the ability to develop and sustain regular reporting processes and cycles to foster greater accountability around recruitment and retention efforts. This process will also involve building intentional relationships with campus partners and working with the SIU faculty fellow to provide campus partners with culturally relevant strategies for data collection, analysis, and reporting. Additionally, they will work with various offices such as Institutional Research and Statistical Analysis to provide guidance on the appropriate terminologies for various identities and data definitions, and to support the creation and maintenance of general data governance guidelines.
40% Data Preparation and Reporting
This professional will be responsible for gathering and analyzing data to present key findings to campus stakeholders. The role will analyze data from various campus offices and academic units to discover and interpret trends, patterns, and relationships, while providing relevant insights that can be used to make strategic recommendations. In addition, they will create sustainable methods to communicate timely and relevant data to campus partners through reports and presentations. They will also prepare charts, graphs, data files, and other visualization to facilitate the interpretation of findings.
20% Divisional Projects and Priorities
The Data Analyst will support ongoing efforts that support the Division of Access and Engagement in offering data-informed interventions. The analyst will interpret data to make recommendations regarding Access and Engagement funding, and create a data repository to support annual reporting processes. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
Master's degree in social science education, business administration or related field
2 years of data analysis or program assessment experience
Preferred
3 years of data analysis or program assessment experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Required:
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, and at least one statistical software package (SPSS, SAS, STATA, R, etc.)
Excellent verbal, written, numerical, and graphical communication skills.
Ability to create clear, accurate representations of data
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Ability to work quickly and accurately with attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Demonstrated ability to learn new software and continually acquire new competencies
General knowledge of various student, staff, and faculty retention models and how to assess such models
Excellent judgment and experience managing confidential and sensitive information
Broad understanding of project management, assessment, and data systems in the higher education setting, as well as how to analyze data to discover and interpret trends, patterns, and relationships to synthesize information and present visualizations for Access and Engagement leadership to take action.
Ability to understand the current research, including promising practices, in recruitment and retention, and community and belonging, to effectively impact key goals and outcomes.
Preferred:
Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research, analysis, and statistical methods.
Working knowledge of SQL programming, Tableau software, Qualtrics survey software
Working knowledge of Banner or another integrated student information system
