Dance Accompanist – Department of Dance

The Department of Dance is seeking a Dance Accompanist to prepare and provide collaborative musical accompaniment for dance classes and/or performances. This is an academic year (9-month) appointment.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Learn, practice, and play dance repertoire for ballet and contemporary courses.
  • Improvise musically in support of course instructor as needed.
  • Develop new styles to work with changing faculty.
  • Provide guest lectures for Music Essentials.
  • May supervise student accompanists.

Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in required area of musical performance or equivalent combination of education and professional accompanying experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a professional accompanist.
  • Professional level music skills in the style and instrument that will support the assigned courses.
  • Working knowledge of accompaniment genre such as Dance, Vocal Music, and Instrumental Music.
  • Approachable, cooperative, and able to contribute to an overall positive and productive work/team environment. (Basic Experience).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting desired.
  • Experience accompanying dance classes.
  • Experience with composition, music editing, and recording.
