Reports to: Cybersecurity Operations Manager

Status: Internship (18 hours weekly) 

Location: Remote

POSITION SUMMARY

The Cybersecurity intern will learn the basics of Cybersecurity including understanding basic terminology, common tools, and systems. Additionally, the intern will work in test environments and on past resolved issues to gain hands on experience with monitoring, detecting, analyzing, and remediating incidents that impact the technology infrastructure.

This position requires overnight shift coverage 10pm-4am, 3 days a week.

OBJECTIVES:

• Gain an overview of terminology and positions within Cybersecurity.
• Understand the basics of common tools and systems used.
• Shadow and be mentored by Director of Services, Cybersecurity Analyst and Cybersecurity Engineer.
• Gain an understanding of the day-to-day incident handling process and lifecycle.
• Gain knowledge and understanding of Cybersecurity basics through Cybersecurity Awareness Training and LinkedIn training courses.
• Through shadowing, gain a basic understanding of social engineering and penetration testing.
• Gain knowledge on cyber security trends and intelligence.
• Hands on experience with vulnerability scanning through a test environment to understand how to scan and analyze data to determine unusual configurations, discovery of aged software, and proper identification of high-severity vulnerabilities.
• Review past resolved tickets to understand day to day incidents and response lifecycle including develop own remediation plan to include tools and investigation methods to be used and draft a response based on the incident to be reviewed by mentor.
• Review past resolved reports to understand what information goes into a client shared report.
• Prior to progressing to the next topic, the intern will be required to provide a short summary of understanding and basics of the topic.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Foundational understanding of computers, computing, and cybersecurity.
• A passion for technology and cybersecurity.
• Will consider current student pursuing a degree in Information Assurance, IT, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related areas.
• Great communication, writing, and organizational skills.
