Customer Service Representative

Position Summary

Meets and greets visitors and provides information to all who come into the Welcome Center. The CSR will have extensive contact with the public and should have a professional appearance and demeanor. The Welcome Center is open seven days a week; this position will be required to work weekends, holidays, and some evenings as needed. This position works hourly and will average between 20 - 25 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Opens and closes the Welcome Center, including on weekends and holidays.
• Staffs the reception desk, meets and greets visitors, answers phone calls, provides routine information and services.
• Answers questions about local, regional, and statewide attractions.
• Works alongside volunteers and other staff members at the reception desk.
• Answers questions about local businesses, attractions, and events.
• Hands out brochures, information, and maps of the area.
• Maintains daily records of visitation numbers on daily visitor log sheets.
• May be asked to help with data entry for monthly reports.
• Fills brochure tacks and stocks other materials as needed.
• Operates the computer and POS terminal for gift shop sales. Must learn to open and close cash register.
• Assists with general housekeeping/cleaning when needed.
• Demonstrates ability to adapt to changing circumstances in order to meet current needs.
• Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested by management.
• Participates in employee meetings and trainings as needed.
• Performs special projects as assigned.
• Meets attendance requirements and maintains the highest level of dependability.
• Demonstrates ability to reprioritize work as necessary.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school graduation; experience working with the public highly desired. MS Office skills required.

Thorough knowledge of attractions located throughout the County; knowledge of the layout of the County and the ability to direct people to events and attractions; ability to greet people in a professional manner; ability to understand oral and written directions; ability to read and write; ability to work independently. Must be detail-oriented especially as it applies to data entry and processing sales. Ideal candidate will be a team player and work well with volunteers and other staff members while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and some medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, standing, walking, and lifting; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for peripheral vision, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

Subject to a complete criminal history background search and drug screening with acceptable results. Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
