Job Functions:

Works closely with senior staff and Customer Service to research, design, quote, and oversee the production of mechanical and electromechanical products and systems for Specials Team. As part of the Specials Engineering team, this individual will promote the sale of Haws Specials products as a secondary technical interface during the sales process. Will develop an ability to review and understand the clients’ technical requirements, will develop competitive solutions leading to purchase orders. Once purchase orders are received this individual will have the primary role of overseeing the design and release of Specials product to Production and oversight of product through the production process. This individual has a results-oriented disposition and must be responsible for creating solutions and executing multiple Specials projects in a timely manner.

Other Job Duties:

  • Develops a deep understanding of the Haws Specials and Core product line.
  • Is responsible for technical aspects of the pre-sales process, including technical analysis of customer requirements, generation of conceptual solutions for customer, cost estimate for the proposed solution(s), ensuring the final quotation captures all costs for product/system design and production labor, coordinating meetings internally and/or with customers to work through design constraints, questions, clarify system parameters and address customer concerns as needed.
  • Is responsible to oversee technical design and release of Specials projects including the development of BOMs, Purchase, Fabrication and Production DWGs, and O&Ms.
  • Ensures products comply with NFPA, ANSI, CSA, UL, and all applicable codes and regulations.
  • Calls on and engages other engineers and resources as necessary to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Regularly interacts with Production teams to support production team and address production issues.
  • Report activity progress, status, and issues to Specials Team and Engineering Manager and other stakeholders, escalating issues for resolution as necessary.
  • Delivers the best engineering solution while considering serviceability, manufacturability, cost positioning, program timelines, and compliance to applicable codes and standards.
  • Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and standards to determine feasibility of design and application.
  • Keeps abreast of competitor products.
  • Maintain knowledge in all related Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Compliance) fields, as relates to job performance, to build and maintain competency.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Engineering or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Computer Skills:

Strong CAD skills with proficiency in SolidWorks and Draftsight (preferred) (or other CAD programs such as Pro-E, Inventor, or CATIA) with design experience is required. Understanding PDM, FEA, and MS Project is a plus. Prior experience with industry standards including ANSI, CSA, and UL. Familiarity with US and Canadian codes for equipment designed for hazardous environments, ADA, and NSF61. Plumbing and mechanical codes desirable.

Language Skills:

The ability to read, analyze, interpret, and generate technical manuals and procedures. Ability to write business correspondence and procedures.

Must be able to read, interpret, and generate Engineering Drawings, Electrical Schematics and P&IDs.

Must be able to speak, read, and write English.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense thinking to a wide range of practical problems. Ability to analyze and problem solve. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in verbal, written or diagram form.

  • Regularly carry, move, and transport objects or boxes up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

The job duties described above are mainly performed within an office environment and on the shop manufacturing floor, which contains various environmental conditions such as exposure to industrial machinery, dust/metallic particles, and noise. Regular, reliable, predictable performance is needed. Physical presence is required for this position.
