Job Summary:The Public Health Chief Operations Officer reports directly to the Dean of the college and functions as a senior member of the Dean’s leadership team, advising the Dean, Department Chairs, college and university leadership. The COO serves as a strategic partner who engages in planning and high level decision making. The COO oversees areas accountable for the financial and personnel management of the college. Areas of responsibility include budget, accounting, financial analytics, human resources and risk management. Candidates for this position should have substantial experience in the finance functions of an educational institution, non-profit organization or private industry.
This position will provide leadership for the strategic and effective use of the Dean’s time to maximize the relationships with University leadership, Board of Trustees, stakeholders, donors, alumni, students and other key groups of individuals, both internally and externally. Coordinate and implement strategic outreach initiatives for education, research, and practice through (1) establishment of management processes, (2) ensuring appropriate financial controls and (3) managing, directing, monitoring and controlling imitative deliverables using project management methodologies.
This position will also oversee the daily operations of the college and provide leadership in the development and implementation of integrated business, operational and administrative programs, structures, system, policies, and programs across the college.
MS Office, personnel skills, communication skills, SAP preferred. A track record in budgeting and long range financial planning; success in managing a collaborative team; strong background in annual, capital and endowment fund accounting; technical competency in not for profit accounting, regulation and compliance; capacity to explore trends both within an organization and in the broader context; understanding of cost accounting; ability to use, learn and evaluate financial software systems, excellent understanding of financial reporting, account review and ability to build forecasting models and utilize financial data for decision making; demonstrated experience managing a team.

Preferred Education/Experience:Experience as CPA, Controller, Financial Analyst. An MBA or other similar advanced degree or certification is preferred. Experience with process, policy review and implementation experience would also be highly valued. Comfort with technology and automated processes are necessary. Experience should be progressive in nature and demonstrate the ability to manage complex projects and across various audiences and leadership levels. Previous experience in an operations leadership role (Executive Director, Vice President, Chief Operating Officer or other related role) preferred.
