The City of Oakland is currently recruiting to fill multiple Custodian, PT (Part-Time) vacancies within the Public Works Department. Incumbents perform a variety of custodial duties in assigned buildings and perform minor maintenance as required, they respond to request for enhanced cleaning and sanitizing to prevent the spread of germs and virus and ensure clean safe and healthy buildings. Incumbents perform heavy routine cleaning, recycling, moving and setting-up of furniture, and other general custodial duties. The Custodian receives general supervision from a Custodian Supervisor & Custodial Supervisor I.
This is an at-will position, exempt from the provisions of the City of Oakland Civil Service Rules (per Charter Section 902f).

- Cleaning and stocking restrooms
- Cleaning and restocking supplies in common areas
- Cleaning the outside perimeter of the building
- Dumping trash
- Stripping, waxing, and buffing floors
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Minimum Requirements for Application
The following qualifications are guidelines, as the appointing authority has broad discretion in filling positions in this classification.
Any combination of experience and education that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Successful completion of the eighth grade.
Desirable Qualifications:
(2) years of custodial/ janitorial experience with custodial methods, principles, chemicals and supplies
- Experience with floor care equipment( i.e. buffer, scrubber, hi-speed buffer)
- Custodial training certificate in healthcare or building maintenance
Applicants selected to work in Oakland Police Department buildings will undergo a background investigation. Background investigators will contact references, friends, family, former and current employers and other contacts in order to verify information provided by the applicant in a Personal History Questionnaire.
