SalaryMuskingum University invites applications for a part-time Custodian. The successful candidate will maintain a cleaning schedule and keep Muskingum University properties clean and neat. This position would work 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. over 9 months, with summers off.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Dust mop, sweep, wet mop, and spray-buff floors.
- Vacuum and clean rugs, carpets, walk off mats, furniture, and other draperies.
- Scrub floors with machines.
- Scrub and clean restroom fixtures; keep restrooms supplied with towels, soap and other appropriate items.
- Dust and clean walls, doors, windows, woodwork, and other above-floor surfaces.
- Clean elevators, stairwells, and outside entrances.
- Notify shift supervisor of equipment and facilities needing repair or replacement.
- Replace accessible light bulbs.
- Collect and dispose of trash.
- Communicate to Shift Supervisor any potential safety or mechanical hazards observed.
- Assist other custodians where needed. May work with others or independently depending on needs and circumstance.
- Wash waste receptacles.
- Shovel and remove snow.
- Set up for events, as required, including assistance with moving tents, stage, tables, chairs, etc...
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strip and refinish floors.
- Wash walls, vents, and radiators.
- Wash and vacuum light fixtures.
- Shampoo carpets.
- Move / relocate furniture.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of safe cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment.
- Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions in the performance of job responsibilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relations with supervisors, co-workers, employees, and students.
- Ability to use cleaning equipment and machines and to lift ladders and equipment.
- Must have and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license and be insurable through the University’s carrier.
