Custodian - Nights Ft

The employee in this position performs unskilled and semi-skilled labor in the cleaning and maintenance of public buildings. This position receives work assignments from the Director of Public Works or designee and that work is generally performed with limited additional supervision. Work is reviewed by Director or designee for conformance with instructions and for the safety and care exercised in operating equipment and tools.
The list below is intended to be illustrative and employees in this class may not perform all the duties listed nor does this list contain all of the duties required of employees in this position. A Maintenance Plan/Checklist will be established for required duties to be completed on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly basis.

1. Cleans all buildings and offices as assigned, including vacuuming floors and carpets, washing floors, cleaning rest rooms, dusting & cleaning of baseboards
2. Sanitizes water bubblers, door handles, push plates on doorways, glass, and mirror surfaces.
3. Sanitizes and cleans kitchen areas including sinks, appliances tables, countertops, and wipes down cabinets etc.
4. Washes windows as required.
5. Washes and Waxes the floors as needed (waxing quarterly)
6. Unclogs plumbing fixtures throughout the facility using proper tools and safety practices
7. Supplies and installs paper goods and materials to restrooms
8. Empties and collects trash and recycling from their assigned the buildings
9. Monitors and adjusts performance of equipment, thermostats and heating and ventilating systems as appropriate, reporting any problems or needed improvements
10. Replaces light bulbs and ballasts where required
11. Moves and adjusts office furniture. Sets up or tears down furniture for meetings as needed
12. Plows, salts and sands, and clears walkways of ice and snow as needed
13. Provides urgent custodial work as needed for building repairs and performs painting as needed
14. Monitors buildings during evening meetings and after closure. Makes sure buildings are secure before leaving
15. As assigned, assists in maintaining records of all inspections, tests, and repairs of various components in the Town buildings
16. Completes task sheets for assigned janitorial work daily
17. Follows the approved cleaning and maintenance plan.
18. Performs related work as required

Must be physically able to perform manual labor in an indoor and limited outdoor environment in any weather condition. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and work with limited supervision. This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Valid Driver's License.Employment Type: Full-Time
