The Oregon Zoo is looking for a Custodial Manager. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring a clean and welcoming environment for all guests and staff. The primary focus of this role involves; providing leadership, planning, organization, and supervision for custodial operations, coupled with support for the Guest Services management team in daily operations. With advanced technical knowledge in custodial operations, staff, and budget management, you will oversee a dedicated team, fostering a culture that values diversity and thrives on excellence. As a key member of the Guest Services management team, flexibility is crucial as the position requires working weekends and evenings. As the Custodial Manager your position:
  • Oversees diverse staff, setting goals and expectations to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Monitors, directs and coordinates sanitation and cleanliness standards for the zoo.
  • Develops, implements and supervises custodial teamwork plans, ensuring operational standards and compliance with policies.
  • Directs team operations, including hiring, promoting, transfers, assignments, and handles grievances and disciplinary actions.
  • Prioritizes and coordinates duties, adjusting work schedules for effective workflow and operations.
  • Oversees equipment operations training, ensuring compliance to with safety standards.
  • Creates safety material and conducts training.
  • Evaluates staff performance and provide ongoing feedback to meet standards.
  • Works directly with other departments at the zoo to align operational services meet with established needs, expectations and standards.
  • Provides direction and oversight over contracting, purchasing, and executing contracts.
  • Recommends and maintains department's annual budget, monitor and evaluate expenses, and prepare reports.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships; foster respectful environment. Encourage and seek to understand diversity in people and ideas.
  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting the public, public officials, agency partners, and others in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Perform essential duties during an emergency.

  • Advanced technical knowledge and skilled in operating and instructing on using custodial equipment.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing agency wide goals, practices, and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and oversee assigned work programs, monitor work schedules and evaluate the work of others.
  • Knowledgeable about effective leadership strategies to promote an inclusive environment.
  • Ability to create an equitable and inclusive environment for a diverse staff.
  • Proficiency operating complex custodial equipment using zoo specified safety best practices.
  • Ability to provide equipment and best practices training to diverse staff.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local compliance policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Possesses clear communication skills and demonstrates proficiency in conveying departmental policies and procedures verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare complex written reports, procedures, and materials.
  • Proactively solves problems, conducts research and analysis, and presents well-reasoned recommendations for optimal solutions.
  • Expertise in cost estimation for supplies and equipment, coupled with a keen eye for researching and implementing innovative service delivery methods.

TO QUALIFY

Minimum Requirements
  • Some specialized knowledge and training beyond the high school level in the function or responsibility that is to be supervised and
  • Three years of directly related experience and
  • Two years of supervisory experience; or
  • Any combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.
Possession of or ability to obtain:
  • Current valid driver's license
  • OLCC Server's permit
  • Multnomah County Food Handler's Certificate
Work environment and schedule: Given the role's onsite leadership responsibilities, the ideal candidate should be adaptable to a flexible schedule, encompassing weekends, holidays, and occasional early mornings or evenings, as dictated by business operations. Extended hours and workweeks exceeding 40 hours may be necessary due to operational needs.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS AND REPRESENTATON
The full-salary range for this position is step 1 $82,020.00 annually to step 7 $109,914.00 annually.However, unless a candidate's qualifications justify, based on the Oregon Pay Equity Act requirements and Metro's internal equity review process, the appointment will likely be made between step 1 $82,020.00 annually to the equity range step 3
$90,427.00 annually.
This position is not eligible for overtime and is not represented by a union. It is classified as a Service Supervisor III.
