JOB DESCRIPTION


Job Title: Cultural Enrichment Advisor

Department: Youth Empowerment Services (YES)

Reports To: YES Program Manager

Supervises: None

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Grade: N3

Job Type: Regular, Part-Time

AKBCU: No ICPA: Yes


General Functions:

The Cultural Enrichment Advisor will assist the Lead Cultural Advisor, YES in providing Alaska Native cultural lessons and enrichment activities for the Alaska Native, and American Indian youth enrolled in CITC programs. This position teaches cultural lessons to students in various YES Department programs throughout the year.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Lead with the development of culturally appropriate enrichment camp sessions.
  • Assist the Lead with planning and preparing for camp sessions.
  • Assist the Lead with recruiting and enrolling students for each camp session.
  • Assist with data collection on each camp.
  • Prepare and deliver cultural lessons to school-based programs.
  • Assist the Lead with coordinating with department peers on developing, implementing, and teaching cultural lessons to students enrolled in the department programs.
  • Assist the Lead with scheduling, planning, and implementing training for school and CITC staff.
  • Assist the Lead with ensuring all program reports internally and externally are submitted to the Program Manager on time.
  • Establish and maintain rapport with CITC departments and staff, school administrators, and teachers, and develop partnering opportunities when possible.
  • Participate in scheduled CITC meetings, committee meetings, and community meetings as requested.
  • Organize and implement relevant activities for K-12 students who are enrolled in the Anchorage School District.
  • Assist CITC staff with ideas for integrating culture into lessons plans and units.
  • Promote YES and other CITC programs within the school and community.
  • Assist the Lead by preparing reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information.
  • Participate in all required training and project partnership planning meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist the Lead with providing cultural awareness workshops for CITC staff and participants as needed.
  • Perform all related duties as needed and assigned.

Job Specifications:

  • Strong knowledge of Alaska Native community and culture.
  • Demonstrated experience working with direct services involving Alaska Native families.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate others as needed.
  • Knowledge of youth services within Anchorage School District.
  • Knowledge of general community needs and appropriate public resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with the ability to handle numerous priorities at the same time effectively.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an active participant in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lift 50lbs on occasion.
  • Perform all related duties as needed and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years’ experience in community outreach, public relations, educational programs, or relevant field.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory state and federal background check.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license and insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age and have had a driver’s license for at least three years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in the field of education or related field.
  • Experience working with Tribal organizations or within American Indian communities.

Also included are non-Native head of household members for Native families, which includes foster or traditionally adopted Native children.
