Our locations:

• Our Ringwood home is situated on a gorgeous 3-acre lot in a beautiful rural setting with 9 residents. The dining room looks out onto a huge screened-in-porch leading to a spectacular backyard. Our three separate living areas provide plenty of room for conversation, game playing, and other activities as well as small nooks for quieter moments to read or listen to music.
• Our Lake in the Hills home is situated on 2.5 acres in a cozy neighborhood and is home to 18 residents. The spacious home has an open floor plan with large great room, kitchen, exercises room, library, porch and even a salon! Walking paths surround the community and a large gazebo for residents to enjoy overlooking the garden.

Culinary Assistant Job Responsibilities:

Purpose: Under the direction of the Culinary Manager, assists in food preparation, portions and serves the highest quality food to Residents. Operates, cleans and sanitizes kitchen and equipment, dishes and utensils. Adheres to food safety guidelines, follows diet restrictions and recipes. Gives effective communication and interaction with residents, visitors and other team members.
Essential Tasks:

• Serves and prepares quality meals for Residents according to company policies and guidelines.
• Ensures that standards for appearance, palatability, temperature and serving times are met in accordance with standards and guidelines.
• Operates, cleans and sanitizes kitchen and equipment, dishes and utensils. Follows cleaning schedule prepared for kitchen.
• Adheres to food safety guidelines, follows diet restrictions and recipes.
• Gives effective communication and interaction with residents, visitors and other team members.
• Assists with special events as requested, including quarterly parties, support groups, and outings.
• Ensures all food is labeled, dated, and stored in accordance with local, state, and county health department policies.
• Knowledge of infection control, OHSA, safety regulations & Assisted Living regulations that are applicable to the culinary service department
• Consistently work cooperatively with Residents, staff, volunteers, and families to ensure Residents are receiving the best quality food and care.
• Participate in in-service training classes as required.
• Observe all community policies and procedures, including but not limited to safety, infection control, Residents’ rights, and those contained in the employee handbook.
• Maintain the confidentiality of all protected health information whether electronic, written, or oral exposed to either during the course of assigned duties or as a result of an incidental disclosure.

Qualifications

• Possess Food Handler license or ability to obtain Food Handlers License.
• A strong desire to serve the elderly required.
• Able to follow written and oral directions.
• Ability to work independently.
• Possess the ability to communicate effectively and deal tactfully with personnel, Residents, families, and visitors.
• Pass background check before and during employment, as defined by The Heathers Senior Homes’ background check policy.

Physical Requirements:

• Sit, stand and walk frequently.
• Push, pull, reach above shoulders, squat, bend, balance, kneel, and crouch occasionally.
• Use hands for simple and firm grasping and fine manipulation as well as cutting food.
• Exposure to hazardous chemicals such as disinfectants, cleansers, soap, etc.
• Occasional exposure to microbial bacteria and other infectious agents inherent to care of the elderly.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $17.50 per hour
