Position Title: Nurse Practitioner
Date: October 1, 2023
Basic Purpose
The CCMP Nurse Practitioner (NP) functions in the five roles of the NP (Clinical Practice, Consultation, Leadership, Education and Research) to meet the needs of patients, families, administration and clinical staff.

Minimum Qualifications/General Information
1 Must possess a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree
2 Licensed to practice professional nursing in the State of Michigan
3 Current Acute Care certification preferred but not required
4 Certificate of Authority to practice as NP required
5 A Standard Care Agreement for Advanced Practice Nursing must be executed
6 Requires BLS and ACLS certification
7 Requires Critical thinking skills – using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
8 Three (3) years clinical experience in Advanced Practice Nursing preferred
9 Eligible for hospital Medical Staff privileges at CCMP facilities – initially ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital (PMRH)
10 Must be able to move about hospital and between workstations; and prolonged periods of standing
11 Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries; requires effective interpersonal skills with a wide variety of individuals. Possess a high level of organizational, delegation and problem solving skills.
12 Must be able to frequently move, lift or carry materials medium to heavy weight equipment, materials, or persons with assistance. Weighing up to 30 lbs., 20% of the time
13 Must be able to input and retrieve information from computer including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and EPIC
14 Must possess ability to design, implement, evaluate and coordinate patient care programs and delivery approaches
15 Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries and diseases. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures
16 Works assigned days and hours (initially 12 hours – 8 PM to 8AM - 3 days per week)

Primary Duties
1 Performs patient management in collaboration with Multidisciplinary Team under the direction of supervising CCMP Intensivist
2 Participates actively in daily Multidisciplinary Rounds
3 Provides timely documentation in EPIC (History & Physicals, Consults, Progress Notes, Discharge Summaries, Procedure Notes, etc.) as directed by CCMP policy or Intensivist, including updating the Problem List in EPIC
4 Performs a complete physical examination, & assessment, & distinguishes between normal & abnormal findings
5 Based on physical examination and other data, in consultation with supervising CCMP Intensivist, formulates a plan of care with expected outcomes, and implements that plan of care
6 Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between healthcare settings (i.e., admitting, transferring and discharging patients – as authorized by supervising CCMP Intensivist)
7 Communicates and collaborates with supervising CCMP Intensivist in patient management, and coordinates billing activities with supervising CCMP Intensivist
8 Uses prescriptive authority, in accordance with State and Federal laws & regulations & PMRH Medical Staff By-Laws and Policies and Procedures to treat illness, and improve health status & well-being
9 Selects & orders tests & procedures necessary to distinguish between normal & abnormal findings (x-rays, ABGs, blood chemistries, cultures, etc)
10 Functions as a clinical expert, resource, mentor and role model for staff nurses and nursing leadership
11 Performs and/or assists with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as necessary and appropriate for the care of the patient. Procedures include, but are not limited to: endotracheal intubation, administration of emergency medications, placement of peripheral and central venous catheters, arterial catheters, venipuncture, arterial puncture, initiation and adjustment of medications, interpretation of blood gases, and determination of oxygen requirements, and administration of blood products, etc. (in accordance with PMRH regulations, privileges and State Licensure. Will maintain basic competencies per Standard Care Arrangement.
12 Works in conjunction with health care team to meet the needs identified in the nursing plan of care, the emotional and learning needs of families, and in patient/family teaching and discharge planning
13 Works collaboratively with the Medical Director of Critical Care, Critical Care Leadership and ICU Educators to identify and meet on-going educational needs of patients, families & staff
14 Works with Nursing Manager/Director Critical Care to assure that clinical nursing practicing are current, family-centered and evidence-based
15 Develops clinical standards/protocols, pathways, and preprinted orders based on best practice models in collaboration with the Medical Director Critical Care Services and Nursing Manager/Director Critical Care
16 Functions as patient and family advocate on assigned Hospital Committees
17 Maintains clinical competency and keeps informed of current trends and developments in Critical Care
18 Participates in the planning and presentation of Continuing Education Programs for Nursing staff, Residents and the community
19 Plans and participates in the orientation of new Critical Care Nurse Practitioners, Residents and Nursing Staff
20 Maintains familiarity with Hospital Core Measures and CCMP Performance Measures and assists with processes and tactics to ensure compliance.
21 Represents PMRH and CCMP through membership on hospital/community committees and task forces. Provides information, direction and leadership in practice councils at the unit and hospital level, and maintains membership in the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN)
22 Evaluates care provided with a focus on increasing quality, cost effectiveness and customer satisfaction
23 Oversees Critical Care nursing practice, guides the Registered Nurse in practice standards and regulatory requirements. Communicates need for action/growth plans by individual or overall staff to unit nursing leadership/educators
24 Performs other duties as required
