We are looking for a Crisis Intervention Specialist to join our team and provide support to domestic and sexual violence survivors. The successful candidate will be responsible for the caring and respectful operation of the safe housing program, the response to the Hotline and Textline during the assigned shifts. The ideal candidate will have customer services skills, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping others reach their full potential.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Respond to crisis hotline calls or walk-in requests for service
- Provide trauma informed/responsive Crisis Intervention, survivor support in shelter, information, referral, education and safety planning to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking and document calls or walk-in service
- Screen victims requesting shelter, determine eligibility for admission, and arrange for shelter admission
- Maintain up-to-date understanding of the Safe Housing policies and procedures and bring questions or improvements to the Crisis Intervention Specialist Team (CIS) at monthly meetings
2. Work with clients who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking
- Conduct the intake process, including documentation, belongings review, and room assignment
- Respond to resident needs within the shelter (meals, request for medication, toiletries, etc.), share in scheduled coverage duties and consistently implement house rules
- Respond to emergency situations and report unusual incidents or facility/client problems to the After Hours Supervisor via cell/home phone use the After Hours guidance list.
3. Assist in shelter/facility management
- Oversee residential program structure during shift
- Housekeeping duties, as necessary, needed to ensure the health and operations of the facility; including, but not limited to, meal preparation, trash collection, and laundry
- Monitor security of the facility during shift; monitor security cameras, intercom system, gates, and armed security system
- Conduct hourly room checks/security checks during evening and night shifts
- Participate in shift report at shift exchange
4. Secondary Responsibilities
- Document case activity (for each resident once near end of shift) and maintain other necessary records including gate, phone, shift, kitchen cleaning log, meal count, menu changes, incident reports, etc
- Assist in compiling monthly service statistics and maintaining an up-to-date file on all crisis calls
- Membership on and duties of staff committee, as assigned,
- Supervise volunteers on shift, and oversee interns as assigned,
- Complete the shift Specific Checklist for assigned shift
- Adhere to all agency policies and procedures
- Other appropriate duties as assigned

- Ability to enforce safe housing rules consistently and fairly and implement structured schedule

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to be in a sedentary position or standing, bending, stooping and light lifting work, both indoors and
out of doors. Must be able to go up and down stairs and accomplish tasks that require reaching, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing; including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust to focus. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds while walking and move quickly under emergency conditions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is generally inside in the residential housing facility and includes kitchen environment, laundry room, bathing areas, secured crisis hotline area, and other communal living areas. The position may require some travel outdoors, including walking up to 1.5 miles at a time, accompanying groups of adults and children to local appointments or activities.
