Summary
Assigned to the criminal investigation division of the police department. The supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising and evaluating the function and staff within the property/evidence room. A major function of the supervisor is to maintain and safeguard the integrity of all police held property in accordance with state laws, city ordinances and department policies and procedures. Maintain all of the property and Evidence seized or kept by the department. Collects, protects and processes evidence at Crime Scenes using the latest techniques and equipment available. Specific duties as in court liaison, answering court discovery orders, and evidentiary video custodian in traffic related cases.

Salary
The starting salary is $28.52/hr ($59,321.60 annualized) up to $45.63/hr ($94,910.40 annualized) depending on qualifications and experience, plus benefits.

Required Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent with at least four years of increasingly responsible experience in a law enforcement agency including experience working Crime Scenesand Evidence/property management. A minimum of two years of supervisory experience or 60 college hours from an accredited university or an equivalent combination of the two is required.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university in criminal justice, forensic science or other related field; five years experience working as a Crime Scene technician an/or evidence control technician; supervisory experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid TX Class C driver license minimum; High school diploma.
Certifications and Memberships Preferred:
Texas Association of Property and Evidence Inventory Technicians (T.A.P.E.I.T.) or International Association of Property and Evidence (I.A.P.E) certification and/or active membership or the equivalent of another state

Essential Duties & Required Qualifications
- Maintain evidentiary digital video repository and act as court liaison for discovery and other related evidentiary issues.
- Store and retrieve all property and Evidence collected, seized, or kept by the police department assuring a continuous chain of custody.
- Maintain all records related to property and Evidence.
- Manage the delivery of evidence to and from court, laboratories, prosecutor's offices and other locations.
- Purges inventory of property/evidence for destruction, conversion, or auction
- Arrange for abandoned or forfeited property and Evidence to go to auction.
- Maintain knowledge of the law and policies regarding the management, including the process for final disposition of evidence and property.
- Respond to Crime Scenes, gather and process physical evidence, photograph and sketch Crime Scene and physical evidence. Assure that evidence is collected and stored according to policy.
- Handles, prepares, documents bio-hazardous evidence and scenes
- Utilizes special processes, methods and equipment for the detection and collection of trace evidence
- Assists officers in packaging of property/evidence and verify that packaging procedures are being followed on a daily basis.
- Write reports regarding the collection and processing of evidence discovered.
- Testify as an expert witness in court regarding the results of analysis and examination of physical evidence.
- Provide technical support and training, dealing with evidence and property, for all divisions within the Police Department.
- Manage the ordering, storing and furnishing of forensic and evidentiary supplies for all divisions within the Police Department.
- Manage and troubleshoot digital evidence system.
- When not on duty, maintain scheduled on-call status for major event response.
- Coordinate/facilitate all required CALEA inspections and audits with accreditation manager.
- Manage Crime Scene and Evidence staff activities.
