Crew Worker - (Part Time)

The City of Manassas Park Public Works Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Part TimeCrew Worker. The City of Manassas Park is 2.5 square-miles, incorporated City with a general population of over 17,000. The City is mostly single family residential, with some commercial/industrial properties. The VRE (Commuter Rail Station) is within the City Center in which is growing rapidly.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

The essential function of the position is to assist in the maintenance of City infrastructure and facilities. This position performs varied types of work, including (but not limited to) mowing grass, picking up debris and litter, clearing culverts of blockages, assisting with leaf collection, clearing brush, painting fire hydrants, installing signs, clearing snow, sign installation, filling potholes, inspecting storm sewer outfalls, inspecting sanitary manholes, and other tasks needed to maintain public infrastructure. The position requires the use of various types of equipment, including but not limited to power tools, motorized / heavy machinery including mowers, tractors, trimmers, chainsaws, chippers, saws, and drills. Daily activities will include physical tasks typically requiring the use of various hand tools and performing miscellaneous tasks pertaining to City maintenance as needed. The position works under direct supervision according to set procedures.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Assists with roadway maintenance by inspecting pavement and sidewalks for defects, by repairing, cleaning, painting, installing, and repairing signs, assisting with pothole repair and with pavement markings, and other similar tasks.

· Assists as directed in leaf collection and snow removal operations.

· Assists in the maintenance of the water distribution system by assisting with hydrant flushing, repairing leaks, changing out water meters, by painting fire hydrants, and other similar tasks.

· Assists in the maintenance of the sanitary sewer system by helping to clear blockages, inspecting manholes, and TV inspect sewers and services, and other similar tasks.

· Assists in maintenance and repair of public facilities by operating general and special purpose equipment to perform specialized maintenance activities.

· Operates a variety of powered and hand operated machinery and equipment to facilitate maintenance and repair of public facilities.

· Performs administrative or operating tasks such as completing work orders and forms, answering phones, filing records, cleaning work areas, and maintaining supplies and materials. Copies, transcribes, enters, or posts data or information.

· Assists coworkers in completion of tasks and may be required to instruct or assign duties to coworkers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES REQUIRED

· Serve as a responsible steward of City resources, wasting neither time nor materials.

· Uses addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; may compute ratios, rates, and percentages.

· Reads routine sentences or instructions; writes routine sentences and completes routine work forms; speaks routine sentences using standard grammar.

· Performs routine work involving set procedures and rules but is expected to be flexible in addressing unique circumstances; requires normal attention span with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure.

· Makes decisions with moderately serious impact that may affect the work unit and may affect other work units or citizens.

· Requires sound judgment in selecting appropriate tools and in satisfactorily completing work assignments.

· Responsible for following all safety rules as trained, and for protecting the health and safety of coworkers and the public.

Authorized Hiring Range: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour
